Why Every NES Kid Should Play Ninja Gaiden 3 In This Day and Age.

You know, there comes certain retro games that leaves such a taste in your mouth, you wonder how you went on gaming without touching them. For many, that’s Super Mario Bros 3, Castlevania 3, along with Sonic 3 on Sonic & Knuckles; awesome game on and all.

However, for me, that game was Ninja Gaiden 3 on NES. And if you were a kid growing up in the 90s then you more than likely found yourself at home with this game.

But you know, Ninja Gaiden 3 on NES was more than just a game, it was a stamp on childhood gaming that signified that you weren’t wearing the ninja colors, you lived it.

I played this game not that long ago and I think many of you NES ‘kids’ should revisit this game because its wasn’t just a hard game to us, it was an exercise through hell and back. For me, a very enjoyable exercise if I may say so. But here are other reasons why.

1. Reliving Childhood Memories -

How often do we get swept up in all of the new games still coming out; Ninja Gaiden 3 NES was simple.

For one, you’re reliving your childhood memories which is definitely a good enough reason to want to. The first time I ever played this game, I was 11 years old but I didn’t make it off the first level.

Now, that wasn’t from lack of trying or because I sucked at the game, I totally didn’t, the game was a borrow from one of the neighborhood kids and I didn’t get to play the game long enough. But I will say this, the little I did get to play, I fell in love.

That nostalgia feeling just reminds me of simpler times especially in the game world.

Yes, the game put you through a lot and it is the most challenging of the 3 but it was one of those game you could appreciate the challenge you faced and not have to grind or level up to get through the level.

Sadly, I didn’t get to play this game fully until I was 39; I bought an emulator and when I saw the game on there, I about lost it. “Ninja Gaiden 3 on NES, I’m so there!”

2. The Best of All 3 Games - The first Ninja Gaiden game I ever played was 2, and yeah, I’ll cop to it, I kept getting my ass handed to me by Jacquio. I did eventually beat him and moved on from the game.

When I played Ninja Gaiden 3 as an adult, there was no question why it was the best of all 3; the replay-ability was through the roof. And let’s face it, Ninja Gaiden 3 NES was just gaming awesomeness at its best and it always will be.

3. Play how you want, I do - Let it be known, I’ve seen other gamers play this game and one of the things that I always loved about this game is that you can play it however you want. For example, I came up with my own system of playing the game.

A clever way of utilizing the power of ninpos per every level, I stick to only those ninpos. For example, for levels 2–1 & 2–2, I use the flaming wheel ninpo, and for 3–3 i.e. boss battle, I used the Invincible Fire Wheel and nothing else.

This game has such a hold on me and if you grew up playing this game then you know what I’m talking about, its just one of those games where you can get mad, but forgive the game because its just that awesome.

4. Gameplay immersion as an adult vs. a kid - When you’re a kid, a game hits a certain way and it goes without saying that you don’t have much in the way of expectation when it comes to a game like Ninja Gaiden 3.

However, when you’re an adult, you can see how awesome a game is and even appreciate it because its just one of those monumental staples of your childhood.

No matter how old you get, revisiting this game is definitely and should be on your to do list; you can play every game imaginable but none of them will ever be Ninja Gaiden 3.
