When You Catch Yourself Staring Into Space

I found myself staring out the window while sitting in the kitchen at my daughter’s house. A house I had lived in for roughly ten years. A place where I helped raise my granddaughter. A home with a series of events, perhaps touching on every emotion from sanity to insanity.
While no longer living in this house, I still feel it is home. Perhaps it is the comfortable and familiar feeling I have when I return that allows me to totally relax. Or, it may also be the fact that Hazel, the corgi runs rapidly throughout. She practically knocks me down when running to see me. Of course, she knows I’m the one that spoils her.
The past year or so, I have had to come to grips with the many changes in my life. Moving into my apartment and solving the mystery of making a living. Then there are always family issues. But, the silence I felt while peering out the window was peaceful. Perhaps, I have come to accept “what is.” Some of which is, what I cannot change in a family with larger than life problems. This has not been easy for me since I tend to be a “fixer.”
At this point in life, peace is utmost. I tire of trying to figure out solutions. It is easier to walk away. If the end result is peaceful, then I have found it works — at least, for me.
Everyone of us has a different journey to travel. Some roads more difficult than others. Emotional roller coasters of joy and at times sadness.
Acceptance is a key factor in finding a level of peace in life. How significant is this to you?
