Those are beautiful passages, and I believe they all describe the wonderful fruits that come as God's Love accumulates within our souls, nourishing and unfolding the unique gifts and purposes God has placed within each of us.

My own understanding is a little different, however. I don't believe any part of the Holy Spirit actually enters our soul or teaches us directly. Rather, I believe the Holy Spirit is God's instrument for conveying the Essence of His own Soul—His Divine Love—into open and receptive souls in response to earnest, persistent prayer.

Three passages especially lead me to that conclusion:

“And hope does not disappoint us for God has poured out HIS LOVE into our souls BY the Holy Spirit which He has given to us.” Paul — Romans 5:5

“Through Jesus, God has given us His very precious and magnificent promises so that by them we might PARTAKE OF HIS DIVINE NATURE and escape the corruption of the world caused by selfish desires.” Peter — 2 Peter 1:4

“Anyone born of God refuses to practice sin, because GOD’S SEED abides in him; he cannot go on sinning, because he has been BORN OF GOD.” John — 1 John 3:9

To me, these verses describe not the Holy Spirit Itself dwelling within us, but the Divine Substance that It conveys from the Father's Soul into our souls.

I also understand Paul's "wordless groans" somewhat differently. I believe it is our own soul—awakened, nourished, and cleansed by the Father's Divine Love—that communes soul to Soul with God in a language beyond words.

And notice that just a few verses earlier Paul says, "we ourselves... groan inwardly" (Romans 8:23). That, too, has led me to understand the "groanings too deep for words" as our awakened soul's own communion with God, while the Holy Spirit is the means by which the Father's Divine Love is conveyed to us. After all, is it not our own deepest selves that cry, "Abba, Father" (Romans 8:15)?

As that Love grows within us, I believe it opens us to greater wisdom, peace, discernment, and guidance, gradually conforming us to the image of the Master. I also believe God often ministers to us through our redeemed brothers and sisters in the spirit world, though I know that is a subject on which sincere Christians differ.

One reason I have always appreciated the Quaker tradition is its emphasis on silent waiting before God. The one-hour silent prayer gatherings, especially when supplemented with daily personal sessions, seem beautifully suited for quietly requesting and receiving the Father's Light and Love.
