Are “writing tips” necessary for a writer?

You know, some people hate taking advice. Thinking they don’t need it because they already know them. While there are some who are hell-bent on listening to advice. They don’t know a method otherwise.

There is no in-between, I suppose. As a writer, I don’t consider “writing tips” as advice but as a grand certificate that is showcased to you by the wordsmith.

But is it always the wordsmith that presents to you the writing tips?

Is it necessary to be read or heard otherwise?

The well-crafted ones

You see, some writers are pro at this. Give them a topic, and they’ll research and organize it in the best manner possible. But what happens when you consider “writing tips” as just a topic?

The simple answer is the essence of writing or the writer is long forgotten.

A writer writes for different reasons. Some write for a living. Some write to build their career. Some write to enjoy. Some write to heal themselves. Some write for others. Some write with no reasons attached; it’s just because writing comes naturally to them.

So, when you are about to read a well-crafted writing tips article. Know who you are.

Where you come from.

Where you are headed.

Because these well-crafted ones may be designed for a specific audience, themselves, or the algorithm.

The clickbait

You know it’s casual for writing apps to naturally promote writing content. And if the tech team highly relies on AI, it’s normal for click baits to be hidden amidst the best ones.

This is dangerous. Or even irritating.

The amount of reads, likes, and comments such articles receive can make you believe in the delusion.

How you believe these tips are your rare medicine to heal or get cured from dull writing!

Just like how some medicine’s effects reach the patient only when the patient believes in it, writers at times need to believe in themselves more than the tips scattered out there.

Explore. Research. Analyze. Try out. And find out what comes naturally to you.

That is where your success is.

Ahh, the iceberg

You know Titanic wouldn’t have been famous unless it was met with the worst outcome. Not that I am okay with how the whole thing turned out to be. Sometimes you need to read the real, raw, and genuine version of writing tips to try what works best for you.

They write uncomfortable truths. They also write about their fancy success. No sugarcoating. No false hopes. Just being a writer and stating what they feel other writers might find beneficial.

How will you identify the true version of “writing tips”?

I have a bad habit of stating the truth like a robot, with no emotions attached. Meanwhile I forget that my readers obviously have emotions.

I also love being myself. So, I hope you don’t mind me being blunt. Consider me your loved one whom you are okay to hold off for a while.

So, let me reveal the truth.

You cannot understand which article is the honest version unless you click on it and read it.

But let me tell you something.

Just because you didn’t read an article (which appears to be the best) from thousands of similar articles doesn’t mean that you have missed out on the best.

Because what is the best may not be the best tip for you.

So, instead.

Try out and find out what works best for you.

Don’t limit yourself to just reading the “writing tips”. Do beyond the ordinary.

Listen to 1–3-hour-long video/podcast/audiobook.

Listen to courses that align with your goal, e.g., creative writing, SEO-focused writing, academic writing, etc.

Build your skills, implement them, and continue doing what works best for you.

Attend workshops.

Even dare to do your best in hopes of building your skills with nothing in return.

Finally, write. No matter what. Nothing should stop you from doing what comes naturally to you.

Don’t wait to have finished watching or reading all the writing tips the internet can provide you to start writing.

Just write. But if you are wondering, “How do I even write?”. Let me tell you the secret. Figure out your “why” (why am I writing), and your “how” will be answered without you realizing it.

And believe me, writing itself helps a writer more than whatever he/she thinks he/she must know about writing.
