Which Myers-Briggs 16 personality are you?
Ever since my 9th grade English teacher introduced this test to us, for a reason that I don’t even know, I have been fixated on it.
The study of psychological personalities I’m sure interest most people. It was an overall well-liked unit in the large curriculum of Collegeboard’s AP Psychology, when I took the class with Mr. Carlson last year. “Why is a person the way that they are?” is compelling. It’s very “psychology-y” coded.
Since 9th grade, I had always been an ENFJ (Extroverted, Intutive, Feeling, Judging), pretty much is what it sounds like. ENFJ’s are very outgoing, organized, and always striving to be a leader. They have a very strong connection to others try to pick out options in everyone’s best interests. Some downsides can be: being bossy or overly leading, heavy burnout, and people pleasing. They hardly make time for themselves.
While I still think this describes me, I was actually tested out multiple times for a different personality.
ENFP.
Okay, it’s one letter away, what’s the big difference, right? Yes, they are very similar, but the main difference is the last letter, perceiving. Perceivers are more driven based on their personal values. They are almost better at empathizing with others, but they are more intuitive with themselves. ENFPs are also a little more scatterbrained and less organized. But with those cons, also comes a skill of being spontaneous, creative, and trying new things.

With the psychology behind every personality test, there are still some limits. The main one being that every identity assignment is pure generalization. No matter what kind of questions are asked, every person is different and that should be taken account of when filling out any of these questionnaires.
I was actually getting a little frustrated myself when I recently kept on getting ‘ENFP’ as my grouping — I wanted ENFJ, I have identified that personality for the past 3 years. But, I have no reason to be frustrated. Because the truth is, after my Physical therapist pointed out as I was ranting to him, I’m probably both. That’s one of the things that fall short with these kinds of tests. We’re so keen about needing to identity a certain way to understand our “true inner-self” from a computer. At least, I was.
So, while I like personality tests, there is so much depth that a simple evaluation just cannot take into account. The human condition is so fascinating, and so, so complicated. No wonder humans have been studying it for so long. That’s one of the reasons I want to go into psychology, we’re never going to want to stop getting answers. And I think that’s a really important and valuable topic to dive-deeper in. After all, we’re humans.
What did I gain from this? Not a whole lot, but I think it’s really cool to “learn” more about yourself, or to see how others may generally perceive you. Also, I realize that I totally need to do a better job at executive functioning and planning. I suppose as an ENFP/ENFJ, I could work on my organization skills, which I thoroughly see lacking throughout my day-to-day.
