Contemporary Spanish Art Finds a New Home in Miami

There’s a fresh wave of Spanish creativity washing over Miami’s glittering shoreline.

The Fundación María Cristina Masaveu Peterson (FMCMP), a private Spanish cultural and general foundation, has launched its first international art programme in the Magic City, an ambitious exhibition bringing the pulse of contemporary Spanish art to the heart of the city’s financial district.

Set inside the sleek, glass-fronted Brickell Key Centre Space, just steps from Biscayne Bay, ‘Contemporary Spanish Art from the FMCMP Collection’ transforms an office complex into a gallery without walls. Open daily, the show invites everyone from art collectors to casual passersby to experience how Spain’s creative voices resonate in Miami’s vibrant cultural landscape.

The first exhibition includes nine works that brings a dialogue between generations. Works by masters of Spanish modernism such as José María Sicilia, Luis Claramunt, and Miguel Ángel Campano hang alongside pieces by the avant-garde talents shaping Spain’s current scene such as Ana Barriga, Miguel Caravaca, Hugo Fontela, and Albert Pinya.

The selection reflects the foundation’s dual commitment to preserving established legacies and supporting emerging talent.

A notable inclusion to the show is Robert Indiana’s ‘Amor’, an emblematic sculpture by one of the leading figures of American pop art. Its bold red letters situates the show within an international dialogue between Spanish and U.S. creativity.

Its inclusion, according to the Foundation, creates a symbolic bridge between Spanish and U.S. art, underscoring the vitality of cultural exchange across borders.

The Fundación María Cristina Masaveu Peterson (FMCMP), established by the Spanish industrial and cultural patron Masaveu family, has built a reputation for its collection of modern and contemporary art and for supporting social, educational, and cultural initiatives. The Miami exhibition is part of a broader strategy to promote the institution’s holdings internationally.

Visitors strolling through Brickell will find the exhibition not only an aesthetic encounter but a reminder that art thrives beyond museum walls.

‘Contemporary Spanish Art from the FMCMP Collection’ will remain on view until April 2027 in the communal areas of the Brickell Key Centre Space, part of a recently refurbished office complex owned by Corporación Masaveu. With free admission, the exhibit can be visited daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
