Maharaja Hari Singh and Maharani Tara Devi with newly born Karan Singh in 1931

The Dogra ruler of Jammu and Kashmir Maharaja Hari Singh and his wife Maharani Tara Devi as she holds their newly born son Karan Singh in 1931. The only son of Hari Singh, Karan Singh was born in March 1931. Karan Singh later became regent of Jammu and Kashmir in 1949 and subsequently Sadr-e-Reyasat in 1952, a position he held till 1965. Upon abolition of the position of Sadr-e-Reyasat, Karan Singh took over as Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, a position which he held till 1967 before moving to the Center.
