“When the time is right, I, the Lord, will make it happen.”Isaiah 60:22

I used to think that the hardest part of praying was learning how to ask. Then life taught me that sometimes, the hardest part is learning how to wait.

Back when I was a kid, every time I started a sketch and could finally tell what it was becoming, I got excited and wanted to finish it as fast as I could. I’d rush through the shading, skip the tiny details, and just focus on getting to the end. But whenever I looked at the finished drawing, it never felt quite right. It wasn’t bad, but I always knew it could have turned out better if I had slowed down and given it the time it needed.

It took me years to understand that beautiful art cannot be rushed. Some details only reveal themselves with time, and sometimes, the best thing an artist can do is trust the process.

I have often wondered if faith feels the same way.

We spend so much of our lives asking God to finish the painting while He is still patiently working on the first layers. We want answers before the story is ready to be told. We ask Him to show us the masterpiece while all we can see are brushstrokes that seem out of place.

I remember telling someone once that whenever I prayed, I also asked God to prepare me for whatever I was praying for. More than receiving the blessing itself, I wanted to become someone who could carry it well. So somewhere along the way, my prayers quietly changed:

“Lord, stay with me in this season. And when the time comes, give me what You know I am ready to receive.”

Looking back, I think that prayer changed me more than I realized. Not because life suddenly became easier. But because it changed the way I learned to wait.

To be honest, there were seasons when I questioned everything I believed. Nights when I stared at the ceiling after another unanswered prayer and quietly wondered if anyone was truly listening. I wondered if God was really there, if He truly heard every whispered prayer, or if my words simply disappeared into the silence. I wanted to believe with all my heart, but there were moments when doubt spoke louder than hope.

Perhaps you’ve had nights like that, too.

If you have, I hope you know those questions do not make you a bad believer. I’ve come to realize that faith has never been the absence of doubt. Sometimes, faith is simply choosing to keep praying even when the answers haven’t come. It is whispering, “I still trust You,” while your heart is still learning how.

Because every time I look back on the days I never thought I would survive, I find the same quiet realization waiting for me: somehow, God carried me through them all. The prayers I thought had gone unheard, the doors that remained closed, and the plans that fell apart were never signs that He had abandoned me. They were gentle reminders that His plans had always been wiser than mine.

Over time, I have come to believe that God never leaves a prayer unanswered.

Sometimes, His answer is yes. Sometimes, it is no, because His love is too great to give us something that would only hurt us. And sometimes, He gently whispers, “Not yet.”

I know not yet can feel heavy.

It can feel like watching everyone else receive the very thing you’ve been praying for while your own season remains painfully still. I’ve had seasons like that too — wondering why certain dreams took so long to unfold, why doors stayed closed, and why God seemed silent while everyone else was moving forward.

Truthfully, I still don’t have all the answers. There are days when doubt quietly finds its way back into my heart, and I wonder if I’m trusting the right process at all. But if there’s one thing I continue to hold on to, it’s this: even when I cannot understand what God is doing, I choose to believe He is still with me.

Because somewhere in the waiting, He was doing work I couldn’t see. He was softening the parts of my heart that success never could. He was teaching me to trust Him when I couldn’t understand Him, and preparing me for blessings I wouldn’t have been ready to carry any sooner.

Isn’t it strange?

How the prayers that once felt delayed often become the ones we thank God for answering at exactly the right time.

Sometimes we think the blessing is what we’re waiting for. But perhaps the greater blessing is the person we become while we wait.

Some gifts require steadier hands. Some dreams ask for a stronger heart. And sometimes, God’s greatest act of love is not giving us what we want right away, but preparing us until we are ready to receive it.

So if your heart feels weary today, don’t mistake God’s silence for His absence.

If your prayers have ended in tears more often than peace, I hope you’ll be gentle with yourself. You are not behind. You are not forgotten.

You are simply in a chapter that has not reached its ending yet.

One day, we’ll look back on this season differently. The disappointments that made us question God will become the very moments that protected us. The waiting that once felt endless will become part of our testimony.

And when that day comes, I don’t think our first words will be,

“Why did it take so long?”

I think we’ll simply whisper,

“Lord… now we understand.”

Because when God’s timing finally arrives, we’ll realize He was never withholding something good from us.

He was preparing both the blessing… and the people we needed to become to receive it.

What once felt like a delay was never an interruption to our story.

It was the very thing that made it beautiful.

So if all we can do today is pray one more prayer, trust Him for one more day, or take one more step forward, let that be enough.

And when the time is right, just as He promised,

He will make it happen.
