Goodbye Andre Braugher: Top 5 Captain Holt Moments From Brooklyn Nine-Nine

As we bid farewell to the genius actor Andre Braugher, let us take a look at some of the best moments of Captain Raymond Holt in Brooklyn Nine-Nine.

Andre Braugher passed away at the age of 61 on 11 December 2023. While not much has been confirmed about his passing, his publicist told The Guardian that the actor died of a brief illness.

It is definitely a sad moment for Hollywood and Braugher is being missed by his dear friends and fans. In fact, many stars from the hit show Brooklyn Nine-Nine including Terry Crews and Chelsea Peretti have posted their condolences on social media.

While we remember him with tears in our eyes, here are some of the best ‘Captain Holt’ moments that are definitely going to warm your hearts while you make space for Braugher in your fondest memories (5th is my favorite of all.)

1. Captain Holt vs. Jake Peralta at Halloween Heists

Holt and his “almost” son Peralta (Andy Samberg) were always at loggerheads during Halloween. They had to prove to each other and to everyone else at the precinct that they were the only deserving candidates for the title of “Amazing Detective/Genius.” While neither of them were better than Amy Santiago (Melissa Fumero), they always made sure to make the audience laugh with their tactics throughout the episodes.

One Captain Holt moment from the heists was when he was obsessively waiting for Amy and Jake to wake up at 3 am in the morning…why? To start preparing for the upcoming Halloween heist. When Jake and Amy were arguing with each other about who was more ready to take the other down, Holt stayed put in their bedroom and made them known that he was one-step ahead in the preparations as he sat in a chair dressed in his captain uniform. He also happened to gulp down Jake’s breakfast while the couple (ugh, amateurs!) was arguing.

2. Captain Holt knew Amy Santiago like no one else

Amy often tried to be best friends with her captain but didn’t quite succeed any time. However, when Amy was “70 seconds” late to work for the first time in her life, Holt guessed it correctly that she was stuck at the bank. The fun part was, when he was declared right, he enthusiastically exclaimed “Hot damn!” which shocked all his colleagues.

3. When Rosa Diaz got off on Captain Holt’s wrong foot

When Holt seemed disoriented at work, Rosa suggested that he needed to “bone” his husband. Holt did not take the suggestion well and got intensely mad at the detective for interfering in his personal life. He fumed in anger for 21 minutes, screaming “BOOOOONE” from time to time. The way Andre Braugher played the scene was hilarious, to say the least!

4. When Jake accidentally called Captain Holt his “dad”

Well, fans of the show know that Jake had terrible “daddy issues” because his father was a no-show in his life at most times. He found a father figure in Captain Holt and was also close to Holt’s husband Dr. Kevin M. Cozner. When Jake called him dad by a slip of tongue, Holt took it upon himself to turn the situation hilarious. He said, “Son. Do you want to talk about it later over a game of catch?”

5. When Rosa came out as bisexual to her parents, but it did not go well

Rosa Diaz came out as bisexual to her parents who did not quite accept her. However, Captain Holt, who was gay himself, was there for Rosa during the tough time. He said, “Diaz, you should be very proud of yourself… Every time someone steps up and says who they are, the world becomes a better, more interesting place. So, thank you.”
