Day 199: What a “nothing day” looks like when traveling — Qeshm, Iran

I’m dead tired and brain dead. So without more ado, here is what I can give you today.

6/ Finally, we reach the last activity. We’re exhausted. Literally. I think no less than three liters of water have sweated all over the place. We’re drained, and our brains are only partially up to speed. I motivate the troops to go and see these salt caves, which seem to be one of the most interesting places on earth, but so sad after all the beauty we’ve already seen. We do it on the run, uninterested by a few meters of tunnel dug into the rock.

We collapse at home and decide not to do anything the next day. And so we did nothing. That is, we headed to a part of the island to see about the boats to Hormouz for today, tried to find a hotel in Yazd, updated our profile on Couchsurfing, we paid for the train tickets via a bank in Italy before sending back the proof of payment — a small thing when done from Switzerland that takes on the appearance of a modern-day battle when you realize that it takes you more than 30 seconds to open a page and that, if I remember correctly, to make a transfer you have to open more than 15 of them with the fear that the connection will drop any time in the middle of the procedure.

We head for lunch at the other end of town, in Zeytoun Parc, where nothing is open in the afternoon. I find myself chatting with a young man from Tehran who talks to me about sex when I ask him if it’s difficult to find work as a marine engineer in Iran. Val saves me once again from a situation that was becoming oppressive. In the evening, we were supposed to go to the beach, but we abandoned the plan. Especially as the next day, so this morning, we had to get up again at 5am.”

6/ Enfin, on arrive à la dernière activité. On est lessivés. Littéralement. Je pense que pas moins de trois litres d’eau sont partis en transpiration de tous les côtés. On est vidé, le cerveau ne suit plus que partiellement. Je remotive les troupes pour aller voir ces grottes de sel, endroit semble-t-il des plus intéressants mais tellement navrants après toutes les beautés qu’on a déjà croisées. On se la fait à la course, peu intéressés par quelques mètres de tunnel creusés dans la roche.

On s’écroule à la maison et on se décide à ne rien faire le lendemain. Et donc on n’a rien fait. C’est-à-dire qu’on s’est dirigé vers une partie de l’île pour voir pour les bateaux pour Hormouz pour aujourd’hui, qu’on a tenté de trouver un hôtel pour Yazd, qu’on a mis à jour notre profil sur Couchsurfing. Qu’on a payé les billets de train via une banque en Italie avant de renvoyer la preuve du payement — une peccadille en Suisse qui prend des allures de combat des temps modernes quand tu te rends compte qu’il te faut plus de 30 secondes pour ouvrir une page et que, si mes souvenirs sont bons, pour faire un virement il faut en ouvrir plus que 15 avec la trouille au centre que la connexion ne nous lâche au milieu de la procédure.

On se dirige pour manger à l’autre bout de la ville, dans le Zeytoun Parc où rien n’est ouvert l’après-midi. Je me retrouve devoir discuter avec un jeune de Téhéran qui me parle de sexe alors que je lui demandais si il était difficile de trouver du travail en tant qu’ingénieur maritime en Iran. Val me sauve une fois de plus d’une situation qui devenait oppressante. Le soir, on devait aller à la plage mais on abandonne le projet. Surtout que le lendemain, donc ce matin, il nous fallait à nouveau nous lever à 5h du matin.”
