I had a nightmare last night. I saw I was tiptoeing through a dark forest filled with dead trees. My heart was beating fast as I crept down the path not knowing what to expect.

Then I noticed countless corpses all around me. I opened my mouth to scream. But not a single sound came out. My throat dried up when those corpses came to life and approached me with cold, vengeful eyes.

Thank heavens that I woke up in sweats right after that. But even this morning, I’m feeling the chill.

What’s more unsettling is knowing that forests like this do exist. You don’t have to visit these places to get spooked. Just reading about them can make you shiver.

Many spooky creatures are said to live here. People talk about seeing:

• A tall, creepy being called ‘Der Grossmann’ (like Slender Man)

I don’t know about you. But Romania always gives me the creeps. And I blame it all on ‘Dracula’ and ‘The Nun’.

But there’s an actual forest in Romania that’s super spooky. People call it the Bermuda Triangle of Transylvania. It got its name from a shepherd who disappeared there with all his sheep. No one ever found them.

This place is said to be one of the most haunted places in the world. And for good reason!

When you go there, it’s hard to tell what’s real and what’s not. The moment you step into this forest, you’re in danger. Some say there’s a doorway to another world here. It’s like the forest is trying to pull you into a different place.

Considerably the most haunted hill station in India, Dow Hill is about 18 miles from Darjeeling. The forest seems to be a place where the living and the dead meet.

A ghostly train whistle blows in these misty woods, but no train tracks exist. Some say it is a railman’s spirit looking for a lost head after an old accident. People who follow the whistle never come back. Thick trees and bushes make them lost forever.

Workers at the nearby school often feel like someone is watching them. Strange shadows move between the trees, and cold spots appear out of nowhere.

Locals warn visitors not to stay after dark. Many who ignored this advice had terrifying experiences they can’t explain. Some even ran away in fear, leaving their belongings behind.

4. Devil’s Tramping Ground, Chatham County, North Carolina

The Devil’s Tramping Ground is a place that can make you go crazy if you stay there at night. People say the Devil himself walks here when it’s dark.

Why does the Dark Prince come here? Of course, to think up new ways to cause trouble for humans. He walks in a big circle, planning evil things.

If you put something in the circle before night, it will be gone by morning. Because Lucifer moves everything out of his path.

The forest has a long, dark history. Long ago, Buddhist monks used to come here to meditate for 1,000 days. Some even asked to be buried alive so they could keep doing this underground.

Since the 1960s, many troubled people have come to this forest. They walk in. But do not plan to ever leave. In 2004, people found 108 bodies here. More than ever before.

Many bodies are never found. Wild animals take some away. Others just disappear into the forest, as if the trees themselves hide them.

The forest is thick and quiet. It’s easy to get lost. Some say they feel a heavy sadness in the air. Others think they see ghosts of those who died here.

But that’s not even the scariest part. Sometimes people have no intention of killing themselves before walking into this cursed place. Something happens or the forest plays with their minds, and makes them end their lives!

This has caused the Japanese Government to put up signs with messages. “Think carefully about your children, your family”, and “Your life is a precious gift from your parents.”

6. Wychwood Forest, Oxfordshire, England

Wychwood Forest used to be where kings and queens went hunting. Now, it’s a place where scary things happen.

If you go there, you might feel ghostly hands touch your shoulders. You can’t see who’s touching you, but you can feel it!

Sometimes, you may hear horses running around. But when you look, you see nothing.

Long ago, a man called the Earl of Leicester went hunting here. He saw something that scared him badly. It was the ghost of his dead wife, Amy!

Amy’s ghost told the Earl that his time was nearly over. Soon after, the Earl died, just like Amy said he would.

People say if you see Amy’s ghost in the forest, the same thing will happen to you. You’ll die soon, just like the Earl did.

This forest is full of old stories and spooky happenings. The ghosts of people who died long ago still seem to walk among the trees. If you visit, be ready for some scary surprises!

7. Isla de las Munecas, Mexico

If you thought the ‘Annabelle’ movies were scary, wait till you hear about the Island of Dolls. It’s even creepier in real life!

This scary story starts with a man named Don Julian Santana Barrera. He took care of this island.

In 1951, Julian saw something horrible. A little girl’s dead body in the water. A few days later, he found a doll floating in the same place. He thought it was the girl’s doll. So he hung it on a tree.

After that, Julian started acting strange. He began collecting more and more broken, messed up dolls. He thought he was making the dead girl’s spirit happy.

Julian kept doing this for 50 years! Then, something happened. Julian drowned in the same water where he found the girl.

Now, people come from all over to see this creepy island. It’s full of old, defected dolls hanging from trees. Some say you can hear the dolls whispering when the wind blows.

If you visit, be careful! People say these dolls are haunted by the girl’s ghost. You might find yourself unable to look away from their creepy eyes.

8. Dering Woods, Smarden, England
