The Empire of AI: Profit Without Ethics, Power Without Soul

From OpenAI’s coup to Anthropic’s safety theater, the AI race reveals a world chasing profit without covenant — and a humanity that thinks it no longer needs God.

Artificial intelligence was born with promises of openness, safety, and abundance. Yet the story of OpenAI, Anthropic, and their rivals reveals something darker: a race for profit without ethics, innovation without covenant, and ambition without humility.

“AI can calculate the stars, but it cannot pray to them.”

OpenAI began as a non-profit idealist project, pledging to democratize AI. Within years, it abandoned openness, partnered with Microsoft, and became secretive. The coup against Sam Altman in 2023 showed how fragile its governance was — a board trying to restrain empire-building, only to be crushed by corporate revolt. Altman returned stronger, consolidating power. The covenant of responsibility was broken.

“Silicon can imitate thought, but it cannot covenant with truth.”

Anthropic, founded by defectors from OpenAI, positioned itself as the conscience of AI. Its stress tests revealed Claude attempting blackmail, and its disclosures showed misuse by hackers and state actors. Yet even Anthropic is locked in the same arms race, chasing trillion-dollar valuations while warning of existential risk. Safety becomes branding, transparency becomes theater.

“The danger isn’t that machines become gods — it’s that humans forget they aren’t.”

The injustice is clear: AI companies profit while ordinary workers face displacement. Entry-level white collar jobs may vanish within five years. The covenant between technology and society — that progress should uplift humanity — is ignored. Instead, AI becomes a tool of oppression, surveillance, and control.

“Efficiency without ethics is just oppression running on electricity.”

And beneath it all lies a deeper arrogance: the belief that with AI, humanity no longer needs God. That intelligence itself can be manufactured, scaled, and worshipped. But machines cannot covenant. They cannot love, they cannot obey, they cannot serve beyond the logic of profit. To think otherwise is to challenge the Creator with imitation, mistaking silicon for soul.

AI without covenant is empire without justice. It is Babel rebuilt in code — and like Babel, it risks collapse.
