Living Between Worlds: For Those Who Feel Too Much.
When Your Soul Speaks But Your Bills Are Due.
Last night, I sat on my balcony watching storm clouds gather. My body knew rain was coming hours before the first drops fell. My calendar showed three client calls scheduled for the morning, bills waiting to be paid, and a proposal deadline approaching. Yet something inside whispered to clear the schedule, to make space for what was emerging but not yet visible.
This is the intuitive’s dilemma.
The quiet knowing that contradicts practical reality. The soul’s timing that rarely aligns with the world’s deadlines.
I’ve spent years navigating this space between worlds. Learning when to honor the invisible pull and when to ground myself in tangible responsibilities. It’s never been a perfect dance.

My early attempts at following intuition often looked like rebellion against structure. I’d cancel plans at the last minute because the energy “didn’t feel right.” I’d abandon projects midway when inspiration shifted. I confused intuition with impulse and left practical matters unattended while chasing spiritual alignment.
The results were predictable. Relationships strained. Financial instability. A reputation for unreliability that didn’t reflect my true intentions.
The world doesn’t pause for our inner processes. Bills arrive monthly whether we feel aligned with paying them or not. People who depend on us need consistency, not just moments of inspired connection.
Yet denying intuitive wisdom creates its own suffering. When I’ve ignored strong intuitive signals for the sake of practicality, I’ve found myself depleted, resentful, and disconnected from my gifts. The very guidance that makes my work valuable becomes muffled when I consistently choose external demands over internal knowing.
Balance didn’t come from choosing one world over the other. It came from learning to honor both simultaneously.
I began keeping an intuition journal. When a strong knowing appeared, I’d write it down rather than acting immediately. This created space to discern between passing feelings and genuine guidance. More importantly, it allowed me to look for practical ways to honor the intuition without abandoning commitments.
Sometimes honoring intuition means renegotiating timelines rather than breaking them. It means communicating openly about what you’re sensing rather than disappearing. It means finding the compromise between soul timing and human schedules.
I learned to build buffers into my calendar. To create financial reserves that allow for following unexpected guidance. To be honest with loved ones about my process: “I need to sit with this decision. My intuition is asking for space.”
The intuitive life isn’t about escaping practical realities. It’s about bringing our full wisdom to how we meet them.
The rain finally came around midnight. Heavy drops striking the roof in patterns that matched the insights emerging in my journal. By morning, I’d found clarity about which commitments needed to be kept and which needed renegotiation. The path wasn’t about abandoning responsibilities or ignoring intuition. It was about weaving them together with integrity.
For those of us who live with one foot between worlds, the greatest gift we can give ourselves is permission to be fully human while honoring our deeper knowing. To build lives that create space for mystery without using it as an escape from accountability.
The intuitive path isn’t separate from practical life. It’s a way of bringing deeper wisdom to how we navigate everyday challenges. When we honor both worlds, we stop living divided lives and start creating integrated ones.
Sometimes I still get it wrong. Follow impulse rather than true knowing. Or ignore clear guidance because the timing seems inconvenient. But each time, I’m learning to recover more quickly, to find my way back to that delicate balance between the soul’s wisdom and human reality.
This morning, a client asked how I manage to follow intuitive guidance while maintaining a successful business. She expected complex spiritual practices or dramatic sacrifices of practical stability.
“I build bridges,” I told her. “Daily, hourly bridges between what my soul knows and what my life requires.”
Her eyes filled with recognition. “Is it really that simple?” she asked.
“Simple?” I smiled.
“No. But it is that beautiful.”
