What is Organic Food?
Organic Food
The process of how certain foods are produced refers to the term “Organic”. Foods that have been grown or farmed without using any kind of artificial chemicals, hormones, antibiotics, or genetically modified organisms are known as Organic foods. Crops are grown with natural fertilizers (manure, Compost). Pests are also controlled using natural methods such as birds, insects, traps, and naturally-derived pesticides. Weeds are controlled naturally by hand weeding, crop rotation, mulching, and tilling or with herbicides which are organic- approves
Benefits of organic food:
your mental, emotional health will be completely dependent on how you grow your food products.
- Organic foods have more beneficial nutrients when compared to conventional farming.
- multiple studies have found that organic foods usually contain higher levels of antioxidants and certain micro-nutrients, such as zinc, iron, and vitamin C. Organically grown food has Antioxidants and Vitamins when compared to conventionally produced food.
- Lower level of nitrate is also been shown in organically grown crops. In fact, studies have shown that nitrate levels are 30% lower in the crops which are grown organically. Having High nitrate levels in conventionally grown crops increased the risk of cancer.
- Plants absorb a toxic chemical called cadmium naturally found in soil. Significant studies have shown a lower level of cadmium in organic grains, but not in fruits and vegetables, when compared with conventionally grown crops. The lower cadmium levels in organic grains may be related to the ban on synthetic fertilizers in organic farming.
