PRIDE MONTH

Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer(LBGTQ) pride month is celebrated to honor the 1969 Stonewall Uprising in Manhattan, which peaked the Gay Liberation Movement in the United State. Celebrated each year in June, it includes pride parades, parties, seminars, protests, drag performances, live theatre, and concerts attracting millions of participants around the world. Memorials are held during this month to honor those who have lost their lives to hate crimes or HIV/AIDS with the purpose to recognize the impact that LGBTQ individuals have had on history locally, nationally, and internationally. The purpose of this festival is to encourage greater acceptance and support to younger youths including those who are or are perceived to be LGBTQ which will help in making communities, schools, and other settings safer, and better places for all youth.

The widely known six-color flag which was originally eight colors, created by artist gilbert baker in 1978, is used as a symbol of LGBTQ pride, where red is symbolic of life, orange is symbolic of healing, yellow is sunshine, green is nature, blue represents harmony and purple is spirit but in the original eight-color flag, hot pink was included to represent sex and turquoise to represent magic/art.

There have been and still are a lot of famous personalities from this community who have shaped the world into what it is now and they are famous King like Alexandra the Great artists like Leonardo Da Vinci and Michelangelo the famous mathematician Alan Turing, who has saved millions of lives during the World War II by reducing the wartime and helping in defeat Adolf Hitler and Tammy Baldwin who is the first member of the LBGTQ community to be elected for the U.S Senate…
