MACC has withdrawn its petition for the 1MDB settlement documents

THE Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has withdrawn its application to obtain documents from two lawyers suspected of accepting bribes and receiving proceeds from illegal activities in the 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) settlement between the Malaysian government and Ambank and Goldman Sachs. The MACC informed the court in two letters on November 29 that it would not be continuing with the bid and asked a fresh date for case management.

A media inquiry revealed that the case was scheduled for mention on Wednesday.

The MACC filed two applications in the High Court on October 11 to acquire papers from two lawyers: Chetan Jethwani and his law business, Chetan Jethwani & Co, and Rosli Dahlan and Rosli Dahlan Saravana Partnership.

Chetan represents Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin in a civil action, while Rosli represents the former prime minister in a Jana Wibawa project-related issue.

The MACC demanded that the respondents present ten papers, including their letters of appointment as Goldman Sachs (Chetan) and 1MDB (Rosli) lawyers, their bank account statements, and their firms’ bank account statements.
