You’re Creating Videos, But Not Getting Subscribers: Here Are 10 Real Reasons

One of the questions my friends ask me all the time is, “How do you record a good educational video?”

I used to say, “I need to think about it.” Because honestly, this topic requires thought, and I didn’t have a ready-made checklist.

So I decided to publish this piece from the perspective of someone who genuinely loves learning and spends a lot of time on YouTube: What actually makes people subscribe to your channel?

1. The first image people see: a professional thumbnail

Win the first click:

When we search on YouTube and a list of related videos appears, the first battlefield is the thumbnails. Thumbnails that include:

  • Target keywords
  • A clear photo of yourself

have the highest chance of getting that first, critical click.

2. Care about your viewer’s eyes

When your video starts and you appear on screen, the viewer’s eyes immediately begin scanning your face and the frame. What are you showing them?

From the very first visual signals, they start judging you.

Recently, I watched a video where a woman was sitting in front of the camera with a calm smile, wearing light-colored clothes, against a clean white background with a few simple frames behind her. The background was calm, she smiled naturally, and I felt good listening to her.

I even noticed that I was smiling unconsciously while watching the video.

Give a good feeling ✨️

3. Don’t underestimate the magic of editing

Good editing is like a valuable treasure map.

It helps the viewer understand:

  • Where your key points are
  • When the frame should move
  • What exactly they should focus on
  • Which important points they should read on screen

Your video becomes like a clean, well-organized study note that stays valuable in YouTube’s SEO over time ✨️, and people naturally recommend it to others.

4. Don’t put everything into one video. There’s no rush

When you record a video, you must know: Who is your audience? What questions are bothering them right now? Can you clearly identify their pain points?

Let me give an example:

If you want to learn how to write good copy, that skill has multiple parts. Each part needs explanation, examples, and practice.

If I try to explain all of that quickly in a single 10-minute video, even if I’ve identified the pain points, the viewer will fall behind. They get overwhelmed, frustrated, and eventually close the video.

Be patient.

Explain that the topic has multiple sections that will be published across several videos. Reassure the viewer. Let them move step by step with you.

Remember: When we walk with toddlers, we don’t take big steps.

This approach helps you build a valuable playlist for your audience. ✨

5. Less content, higher quality

Don’t try to publish videos every single day. Try to publish valuable topics with strong quality.

Only with solid playlists and complete videos will your channel be recognized as a reference.

A “complete video” means one clear question. One clear pain point. And a full, satisfying answer.

6. Only claim what you actually do

Never exaggerate or manipulate emotions just to attract attention, especially if your video content cannot fully deliver on that promise.

Let me give an example:

“A Wi-Fi hacking method leaked. Become a dangerous hacker.”

When I saw this title, I immediately knew I shouldn’t click it. Why?

The video was just a few CMD lines to recover Wi-Fi passwords that had already been used on the same device but were forgotten.

Content like this makes people forget you forever.

7. Let others talk about you

Build a tribe:

By producing high-quality videos, covering important educational topics, and solving real problems that make people feel better, you become recognized as an expert on YouTube.

Your fans will bring other fans to you. ✨️

8. Your video title defines the problem you solve

Avoid jokes or playful wording in your video titles.

Use clear keywords and state the exact goal of the video. Show precisely what searching eyes want to see.

Example: How to Write a High-Converting Sales Page? 10 Tips

These are the factors that help you be recognized as an expert on YouTube and build your own tribe In the next piece, we’ll talk about what topics your tribe is most interested in.
