Why Authors Should Have a YouTube Channel.

Here are the 12 benefits

My YouTube journey started in 2011.

At that time YouTube was not so popular.

However, I uploaded my first video.

That was a law college drama.

When I was a student at Siddharth Law College I wrote a skit for the Annual function. I acted in the skit as Ullas Patel.

I was selected as the best actor. The skit received a lot of appreciation.

It took two days to upload the 10-minute video.

There was a time when the internet strength was very slow in India.

What we upload on YouTube will remain there forever.

So I did. After 12 years I found the video again.

It is there! https://youtu.be/XwgNuH-9TiE?si=F21UdxHDTcEeK36J

After, several years, few days before I created a new channel — Author Talks.

Every Author has several back stories to say about their work.

Here, I explain my latest book on criminal psychology.

Creating a YouTube channel can be a valuable tool for authors to promote their books and engage with their audience.

Here are 12 benefits:

  1. Expanded Reach: YouTube has over 2 billion logged-in monthly users, providing authors with a vast potential audience they might not reach through traditional means alone.
  2. Visual Content: Video content can be more engaging and memorable than text alone, allowing authors to showcase their personality and passion for their work.
  3. Book Trailers: Authors can create book trailers to give potential readers a visual preview of their book, helping to generate excitement and interest.
  4. Author Interviews: Conducting interviews with authors can provide valuable insights into their writing process, inspiration, and the themes of their books, fostering a deeper connection with readers.
  5. Reading Excerpts: Sharing readings or excerpts from their books allows authors to give audiences a taste of their writing style and the story itself.
  6. Behind-the-Scenes Content: Authors can offer behind-the-scenes glimpses into their writing process, research, and experiences, giving readers a unique perspective on the creation of their books.
  7. Q&A Sessions: Hosting Q&A sessions allows authors to directly engage with their audience, answering questions about their books, characters, and writing journey.
  8. Community Building: YouTube channels provide a platform for authors to build a community of engaged readers who share a common interest in their work.
  9. Cross-Promotion: Collaborating with other authors, booktubers, or influencers in the book community can help authors reach new audiences and expand their network.
  10. Analytics and Insights: YouTube provides detailed analytics and insights into viewer demographics, engagement metrics, and viewing patterns, allowing authors to better understand their audience and tailor their content accordingly.
  11. Monetization Opportunities: Once a YouTube channel gains a certain level of popularity and watch time, authors can monetize their content through ads, sponsorships, merchandise sales, or Patreon support, providing an additional source of income.
  12. Long-Term Marketing Strategy: YouTube videos have the potential to continue generating views and attracting new readers long after they’re published, serving as a long-term marketing asset for authors and their books.

By leveraging the power of video content and building a presence on YouTube, authors can effectively promote their books, connect with readers, and build a loyal fanbase.
