Three things we learned from Real Madrid’s win over Sociedad.

Real Madrid kept their perfect record in La Liga alive with a 2–1 win over Real Sociedad at Anoeta. Here’s what we learned:

1. Mbappé is the best player in the world

We have to thank the gastroenteritis for this version of Mbappé. As reported, he lost over 5kg just before the Club World Cup due to illness, and the player we’re seeing now looks transformed. Lighter, sharper, and more explosive.

I said last season his physical decline was obvious in terms of dribbling and overall fitness — but that’s firmly in the past.

With 8 G/A in his last 6 games for club and country, Mbappé looks unstoppable. And it’s not just the numbers. His all-round game has gone up a level. He showed his alien-like pace for Madrid’s opener and then delivered a quality assist for Arda Güler’s goal.

It’s a World Cup year, and Mbappé looks deadlier than ever. The Ballon d’Or could be on the horizon.

2. La Liga’s incompetence continues

I can’t believe we have to endure this level of refereeing incompetence every week. Every single matchday has a major mistake — whether it’s Real Madrid or Barcelona.

We’ve seen it all already: the non-existent penalty for Lamine Yamal against Rayo when VAR “wasn’t working”, the questionable offside calls vs Mallorca, and now the Huijsen red card.

To make matters worse, referee Gil Manzano didn’t even check VAR to confirm his decision. Absolutely astonishing.

According to Marca, Madrid will appeal and are confident the decision will be overturned. Reports also claim the refereeing federation privately admitted it was the wrong call.

Whether that’s true or not, one thing is clear: La Liga is becoming an embarrassment.

3. Militão is back

I genuinely can’t believe the level Eder Militão is showing just four games into the season. I was one of those who thought he was finished at the very top after suffering two ACL injuries in two years.

My fear was he’d lose the athleticism that makes him so special — but that hasn’t been the case. He looks sharp, aggressive, and confident.

It’s still early days, but these are really encouraging signs. The problem now is depth: with Rüdiger injured, Xabi Alonso has to manage Militão’s minutes carefully. Madrid can’t afford another major setback for him.
