Mercor Review: $225 Earned, Zero Regrets

I’m presenting another platform I’ve tried and earned from — Mercor. It is a platform that offers opportunities to connect people to remote paid opportunities across a diverse range of fields — **Software Engineering, Other Engineering, Medicine, Law, Data Analysis, Finance, Business Operations, Life/Physical/Social Science, Arts & Design, Language and Audio, Miscellaneous, and Humanities.**

Some of these are short-term one-time incentives which have a clearly scoped task, and you’re paid once your submission is reviewed and approved. Like I had done a couple of one-time tasks which paid me $225 across 2 months.

And other contracts can be longer if you wish to dedicate more time and effort; then you can apply for those. If you are consistent on the platform, then it could happen that some contracts could directly come your way, as I had applied to a bunch of coding/software opportunities. Even though I didn’t get into any of the applications I applied for, I did get offered a contract of $85/hour.

The specific contract I was offered works on an availability basis: certain times during the week, task slots open up, and if you make yourself available and take up the assignment during that window, you get paid the agreed hourly rate. There’s always an announcement beforehand, so you typically know 12–24 hours in advance of when a task will begin — giving you time to decide if you want to take it. Each task period would generally run about 6–12 hours.

Application Process

The application process is entirely AI-driven (at least the experience as a participant) during the application process. Once you decide to go for a particular opportunity from all the listings, you usually go through an AI interview, which could be 30–60 mins. Depending on the opportunity, you may also need to share additional information through a form. Once the AI interview is done, your application is submitted and goes into review. After the review is finished (which could vary from a few days to more than a week), the team gets back to you whether they are moving forward with your application or not.

In the meantime, keep applying to other opportunities — don’t stop just because one application is in review. Because in my experience even if you are not a great fit for a certain application, Mercor may match you up with another offer where you may directly land a more suitable contract matching your skills like I mentioned earlier in the article.

It is entirely up to you whether you accept or deny a contract, once you land one.
