The Reality of Life

Throughout our lifetime, we will make many friends. Many of them are hi bye, and most of them are together just for entertainment.

In elementary and high school, we would play truancy with classmates. Skipping school to have breakfast at economic dining places, then waiting for the arcade centres to open at 10 am. Bought along home clothes to change into to enter.

Unexpected Discovery

One of my classmates found a black videotape one day, and he invited many of his classmates to his house to explore. Sadako from The Ring didn’t crawl out of the television, and we didn’t die in 7 days. I still remember the name of the tape called Friday Night Fever.

The lady saw a fit man outside her house and invited him in for coffee. They started making out, and the lady telephoned her friend, who was also making out with another guy at her end.

I was ignorant at that time and was surprised that the semen in the videos was white and not transparent.

After reaching the age of 14, I could work together with classmates at fast-food restaurants like McDonald's. During my era, the salary was mediocre, at S$2.50 per hour. After 6 months in, the salary was increased by S$0.08 per hour.

Days In Technical School

Playing truant with friends affected my studies, and I ended up in technical school. I took up a certificate in office skills. In technical school, I hung out with a few hooligans who skipped class as well. The majority of the classmates in my class were female, with only 5 males. 1 of the males had a walking disability, and I often walked him to the bus stop.

There was a female student I liked from another class. She knew about it and got her female classmates to embarrass me. I was in tears, and my female classmates comforted me. A few of them liked me, but I didn’t reciprocate their feelings.

Despite skipping classes, I managed to pass my exams with As in all subjects, like Business English, Office Practice and Word Processing, even though I studied at the eleventh hour. I received a national service letter to serve the Singapore Police Force after graduation.

I wasn’t aware that I could defer the national service and ended up serving for 2 years and 6 months. I could have gotten into the Certificate in Business Studies course with my results. Oh well…

Betrayed By Someone I Trust Fully

During the first 3 months of basic military training, my squad mates would give me a nickname called Mother Boy, as I was soft and feminine. 6 months later, I was posted out to Police Headquarters. That’s where I met one of my close friends who later on became my hater.

After work we would hang out together for dinner, play at arcade centres, catch a movie together or go window shopping. During working hours, I would notice him bullying another colleague of ours. I took note of his behaviours but didn’t think that one day I would become his target for online hate.

As I focused more on personal development and growth, I found that spending time together by wasting time was not a good use of my time. Being ignorant, I revealed to him that I would be spending less time with him as I wanted to focus on personal development. His ego was triggered, and he became defensive.

He began to attack me online, and I decided to block him from my life. Many years passed, and I happened to see him outside a shopping centre. He pretended as though nothing had happened and became friendly with me.

Betrayed By The Same Person Twice

I thought that he might have turned over a new leaf since he had married, but divorced, he should be more mature and responsible in thinking. Oh boy, I was so wrong! At one meetup, I didn’t get to meet him in person. I found it strange. Later on, he called to reveal that he had been arrested for shoplifting.

He begged me to bail him out, and he didn’t let his friends or family members know. I did bail him out, and he revealed that he stole bread to eat at a bakery shop in the shopping centre.

During one of the usual movie outings together, I realised that he had the habit of voyeurism, saw his phone having pictures of women upskirts. He had always pretended to be decent by not being interested in porn, but his behaviours show otherwise.

Not long later we had disagreements, and he again defamed me on his social media. Before that, he said that he had offered to pay his friends to spend time with him, but most of them would not want to. Now I understand why. If someone can badmouth or mistreat someone in public or online, he can also do the same to you. It’s best to keep a distance from such a person, as he can use your private information against you one day.

He tried to attack my social media posts one day that had nothing to do with him. He kept provoking me, but I remained silent. I knew that people like him love engagement; it’s hard to outtalk him, it’s tiring and meaningless. In the end, I blocked him from all social media.

My Findings and Conclusion

From my personal experience as a content creator, I realised that some haters can become your followers when you show up consistently. Some people do change for the better, and if that new version of him is aligned with you, he will follow you.

Betrayed by this “friend” twice, no more opening up to him next time, even if we do see each other in public. Never be a fool like me to trust someone who has betrayed you once. He will repeat his behaviour no matter how good he pretends.
