Michael Sheen’s Secret Million Pound Giveaway — and the company that no longer existed

In March 2025 Channel 4 aired Michael Sheen’s Secret Million Pound Giveaway. The story was powerful: Sheen put up £100,000 of his own money to buy a debt portfolio worth £1 million and wipe it out, freeing hundreds of households in south Wales from crushing consumer debt. The accompanying press coverage and interviews framed it as generous, carefully planned, fully legal and properly supervised. It took nearly two years to put together, we were told. It all sounded good.But when you look at the public records, things start to feel off.The company tied to the project is Ten (Acquisitions) Ltd. That company was compulsorily struck off and dissolved on 20 February 2024. Companies House removed it from the register because it failed to file accounts and ignored reminders. This wasn’t a voluntary wind-up; it was the authorities saying “you’re gone”.The documentary aired thirteen months later.So the obvious question is: how were those debts purchased and cancelled if the company supposedly handling them had already been erased? Who legally held the debt portfolio at the time? Under what authorised entity was the transaction actually carried out?The Financial Conduct Authority register doesn’t show Ten (Acquisitions) Ltd as an authorised firm for regulated consumer credit activities during the relevant period either.There’s more. Ten days after the first company was dissolved, a new one appeared: Ten Acquisitions Ltd (Company №15516124), almost identical name, same registered address. This kind of phoenixing is common in business — when one shell is finished, you start another — but here it stands out because:

The new company applied for voluntary strike-off in September 2024; someone objected within the 72-hour window and the dissolution was halted.

It remains active, but its accounts are still overdue (as of February 2026).

On 4 February 2026 its director, Timothy Deacon, resigned. Deacon had been in the role since August 2024 — and he also holds the position of Intellectual Property Officer for the Mab Gwalia project.

I’m not claiming anything illegal happened. I don’t have evidence of wrongdoing and I’m not suggesting it. What I am saying is that the emotional, feel-good story told on television — a celebrity using his own money to save struggling families — doesn’t line up cleanly with what the public records show.Was the whole operation run through a different, unmentioned entity? Was there some authorised third party or temporary vehicle the FCA approved? Or was it simply assumed to be fine because Sheen said it was and Channel 4 broadcast it?I don’t know the answers. But when someone puts out a high-profile documentary claiming to have cancelled a million pounds of debt, I would expect the paper trail in Companies House and the FCA register to match the story on screen.Transparency isn’t just saying “everything was done legally”. It’s making sure anyone can check it without hitting dead ends and unanswered emails.

Updated March 16, 2026: Last Thursday, March 12th, Roland Roberts included Ten Acquisitions’ overdrawn accounts in his report. According to the report, they were barely moving 100 pounds. I don’t quite believe it, but at least now he can close his image consultancy without having to evade filing accounts. If you’re reading this, Mr. Roberts, Mr. Sheen, closing without accounts is a bad habit.
