🥁 A 20-Year-Old Dream, Cut Short by Reality

Thirty years ago, I was just a college student dreaming of becoming a professional drummer. I poured every single penny of my savings from New Year’s gifts and part-time jobs — and even borrowed money from my parents (which I have since fully repaid) — to finally buy my very first dream drum kit.

Heavily inspired by Hiroyuki Noritake, the legendary drummer of the Japanese fusion band T-SQUARE, I chose a Pearl MR Series (Classic Maple) kit.

Later in life, influenced by another idol of mine, Akira Jimbo, I acquired a Yamaha Birch Custom kit. For a while, I lived the ultimate luxury of switching between these two beautiful sets.]

However, storing and moving two heavy sets of hardware became a massive headache.

“What if I could share one single set of hardware between two completely different drum kits?”

This spark of an idea sent me rushing to local hardware and hobby shops. I spent weeks using epoxy putty (the kind used for plastic models) to build prototypes. Unfortunately, none of them worked.

Unable to solve the compatibility issue between the two major brands, I eventually had to make the heartbreaking decision to let go of the deeply sentimental Pearl kit I bought during my student days.

The dream was shelved. But for the next 20 years, the idea never truly left my mind. If only the “Tom Holder Revolution” existed back then, I would never have had to sell that kit.

Little did I know, a sudden twist of fate two decades later would drag this forgotten dream back into the light — and spark a 5-year journey to a real revolution.
