In 2016 I started my profile here in this space.

I posted one story.

I didn’t get it.

I didn’t understand the platform.

I wasn’t sure I could make any money, or learn anything valuable, or make any connections here.

So, I put it aside for a few years.

Then, during the pandemic, I came back.

Posted a handful of stories here and there.

And disappeared again.

Then, something happened in 2023.

I felt an unresistable urge to try again.

I dug deeper.

I started writing more consistently.

Started making a few bucks…

But the nicest surprise was the connections I made.

It’s always scary when you write something and press “publish” for the first time.

Will anyone read it?

Will anyone like it?

Will there be a torrent of criticism?

But to my delighted surprise, I was made to feel welcome.

I found like-minded people who taught me, who encouraged me, who supported me and who cheered me on. Even some who challenged me.

My early days were far from perfect. Heck, they still aren’t.

But I learned it doesn’t have to be perfect to hit publish. They say perfection is the enemy of progress.

Those first few, wobbly steps any toddler takes are far from perfect, but must be taken to improve and grow.

And so I keep taking those steps.

I thought the journey might be lonely at first.

Writing can feel like a solitary act, but here I found community.

I found you.

Sometimes you’ve surprised me.

Those pieces I thought were fantastic made a small ripple.

And those stories I whipped out off the top of my head made a huge splash.

And I’m grateful for all the surprises. In fact, the more grateful I am, the more reasons I’m given to feel grateful.

That’s just how gratitude works.

So, from this, my 1000th(!!!) story, I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Without you, I would have given up a long time ago.

I’m so glad I didn’t.

Thank you!
