100 Days of Learning Through Puzzles at MathCodeLab — Our Experience

It’s been 100 days since our first class, and what a journey it has been! Each day represents moments of discovery:

The spark in a student’s eyes when they realize a loop is just a smarter way to repeat.

The laughter that follows when a robot takes the “wrong” path in a puzzle and everyone rushes to debug it together.

The quiet satisfaction of solving a problem that once felt impossible.

Our students don’t just solve puzzles — they build confidence. They learn persistence, pattern recognition, and the joy of experimentation. These are the same habits that power great programmers, scientists, and engineers — but more importantly, they’re the habits of great thinkers.

What We’ve Learned Along the Way

Teaching through puzzles has been as much a learning journey for us as for our students. We’ve learned that:

• Kids are natural problem solvers — they just need the right challenge.
• When you remove the fear of being wrong, creativity explodes.
• Collaboration turns confusion into curiosity — students learn more when they think aloud together.

And above all, the moment a student says, “Oh, now I get it!” — that’s the real success metric

Looking Ahead

100 days later, our mission feels clearer than ever. We’re now expanding our curriculum to include Level 2 — diving deeper into algorithms, data, and how real-world systems work — still through games, puzzles, and projects. We started CS Explores program for the high schoolers to dive deep into CS topics. We’re exploring ways to reach more schools, train more tutors, and build a community of young minds who see computer science not as a subject, but as a way of thinking.

At MathCodeLab, every puzzle solved is a step toward a bigger idea — that learning should feel like creation, not instruction. And we’re just getting started.

Final Reflection

A hundred days in, one thing I can say with confidence: when you teach through curiosity, learning becomes contagious.

MathCodeLab began as a small idea among friends (Prathyusha Kaki, Sudha Kaki) — now it’s a growing movement where logic meets imagination, and every class is an invitation to explore.
