Swan Lake At The London Coliseum
A stunning ballet performance at an iconic London theatre.

Last weekend we went out for a real treat.
As a child, and teenager, I studied ballet for 14 years, and for my birthday last April, my husband bought us tickets to see the ballet, Swan Lake, at the London Coliseum.
The London Coliseum is a theatre located in St. Martin’s Lane, just a few steps from Trafalgar Square.

The Coliseum opened on Christmas Eve, 1904 and is a grade II listed building, meaning it is a property with important historic interest. My hubby’s job involves working with such properties, and as we entered the building, he pointed out various additions and alterations which he approved himself.
Swan Lake is a tragic love story of a prince who falls in love with a princess, cursed by an evil sorcerer, to spend the day as a swan, and the night as a human.
The production was put on by the State Ballet Of Georgia, the ballet company of the Z. Paliashvilil Opera and Ballet State Theatre in Tbilisi, the capitol of Georgia.
As a former student of ballet, I could appreciate their graceful, swan-like moves, the Port de Bras, the Arabasques, the Grand Jetés, the Fouetté Turns, where one dancer turned 32 consecutives times, all on her toes.
When you’ve studied something for years and then watch professionals do it with ease and grace, it is awe-inspiring.
We couldn’t take any pictures during the performance, but did manage to take some at the end, as they were taking their curtsies and bows.

Here is one of the audience leaving the Coliseum at the end of the performance.

And here is one final picture of the London Coliseum, as we made our way to the tube station to head back home.

I hope you enjoyed this little slice of ballet and London life.
I know I certainly did.
