I enjoyed your read on the narrating/ed “I” in Maus! I too found myself intrigued by the subject/narrator relationship within the text and life writings in general. I thought your incoporation of the peritext within Maus to be an interesting lens to examine the relationship of the two protagonists and their respective relationship to trauma. You discuss that Anja is a symbol in which Art and Vladek work through loss. Can you elucidate more on how Anja functions as a “symbol” as opposed to a mode or a memory?
