Collapsing Hearts
This is the story behind my song “Collapsing Hearts.”
STORY
There are times in life when you start to believe that heartbreak is simply part of the deal. You learn to carry the bruises. You learn to live with the almosts. You learn to pretend the ghosts in the hallway are not following you.
For a long stretch, that was my definition of love. A pattern of promises that burned fast and left only smoke. I kept choosing people who needed something I could not give. I kept thinking that if I held on long enough, the story would finally change.
It never did.
Then someone arrived who shifted everything without trying. Not with grand gestures, but with presence. A steady kind of truth that shook loose the doubt I had been living under. It felt like the sky tilted just enough for the stars to rearrange themselves. Like the parts of me that had been bracing for disappointment finally let go.
Love did not show up as rescue. It showed up as recognition.
It made the wreckage of my past feel less like a warning and more like a map. Every wrong turn, every heartbreak, every quiet breakdown had been leading me toward someone who could meet me where I actually was. Someone who did not need me to be smaller or easier. Someone who simply held out a hand and made the world feel steady again.
That is what Collapsing Hearts is about. Not destruction, but surrender. The moment two people fall into each other’s gravity and realize they are no longer orbiting alone. The shock of discovering that love can hit hard in the best possible way. Not as pain, but as clarity.
I wrote this for the version of myself who settled for almost. For anyone who has ever believed their story was already written. Because sometimes the right person arrives, and everything begins again. The past softens. The future opens. And the heart that once braced for impact finally learns how to shine.
Again and again.
LYRICS
I loved the wrong ones first Yeah, I learned it the hard way Every almost‑love was a ghost I kept dragging through the hallway I kept the pictures kept the bruises kept the parts of me I thought somebody needed
Then you hit just like a fault line Shook the doubt right out of my mind I didn’t know the past had me pinned Till you pulled me back in
And I swear the sky went sideways When you said my name Every star in the night Burned bright the same
Two hearts collapsing in the dark I didn’t know love could hit this hard Didn’t know my past was just smoke and sparks Till you pulled me into your orbit Now everything’s shining again Everything’s shining again Two hearts collapsing, again and again
I used to think that love Was a promise people broke A match that burned too fast Just ashes and smoke But you lit up All my quiet doubt And every fear I carried Finally burned out
Now I’m standing in the wreckage Of the life I lived before Funny how the right one Makes you want a little more
And I swear the ground was shaking When you took my hand Every broken little piece of me Finally found where it can land
Two hearts collapsing in the dark I didn’t know love could hit this hard Didn’t know my past was just smoke and sparks Till you pulled me into your orbit Now everything’s shining again Everything’s shining again Two hearts collapsing, again and again
Why did it take so long Why did I settle for almost Why did I think love Had to leave a scar Now I see it in the fallout Every wrong road led me here Every heartbreak, every breakdown Brought you near
Two hearts collapsing in the dark I didn’t know love could hit this hard Didn’t know my past was just smoke and sparks Till you pulled me into your orbit Now everything’s shining again Everything’s shining again Two hearts collapsing, again and again Oh, again and again
