The Cruel Caribbean: Jack Rackham’s Prophecy
March 1720
In march of 1720, John Rackham made a prophecy of things yet to come. He took out a crystal ball and said to me, “Ah, see here, mates. There shall be many attempts to bring Nassau back to its former glory, but they shall all fail. Mary, Cole, Vaine, and I will all die here. But Anne… Anne’ll live.” Cole didn’t seem to think much of Jack’s prophecies. I asked Jack how we would die.
“Ah, Mary, that is a prophecy that mustn’t be told, lest we change the course of history.”
“I see…” I said.
November 1720
“They’re here! WAKE UP, THEY’RE HERE!” I screamed. The British had arrived.
“Relax, Anne, we’ve still got time to flee,” Vaine said calmly.
“I’m afraid we don’t, Charles,” said Calico Jack. “Our fates are inevitable.
“To some,” Cole replied. Just then, there was a pound on the door. “OPEN UP!” a redcoat screamed. They broke down the door and saw me. “Alright, lass, hands in the air.”
“Anyone else in ‘ere!?” another British officer screamed. Everyone emerged from their hiding spots. Just a few days later, we were scheduled to be executed. “Had you fought like a man, John Rackham, you need not have been hanged like a dog,” I yelled at Calico Jack.
“GET IT OVER WITH, HANGMAN!” he screamed back. I saw Cole take out a hidden knife and cut himself free. He ran. Anne also pulled out a hidden weapon, but hers was a pistol. She pointed it at the hangman and said, “Now, don’t come after me!” Then she ran. I was next.
