West Bengal is heading towards its Assembly election in 2026, which is expected in March-April. The state has become the epicentre before the election as it will face its most intense and democratic battle because of disputes, debates, and electoral fairness.
BJP & TMC
In 2021, TMC (The Trinamool Congress) won, led by Chief Minister Mamta Banerjee since 2011, and the BJP continues to fight against with efforts, corruption issues, and arguing for a change in leadership.
BJP has been in opposition for a long time, and the political heat is visible in alliance building, digital campaigning, and public rallies. Aims is to break the long dominance.
Recent Conflicts and Fallout
ED, a law enforcement and economic intelligence agency of the government of India, has raided the I-PAC (Political consultancy) and its director is accused of money laundering.

ED moved to the Supreme Court of India with a CBI probe against Bengal CM Mamta Banerjee for tampering with evidence and obstructing the raids.

Involvement of the Election Commission

It may be a state election, but it will reflecting whole country as WB is a border and an important state along with the main opposition. It is a test for Indian democracy, as people will vote for change and expect better ways to live happily with an elected government.
Elections hold fairness, independence, and it will be question to investigative agencies and state governments, how Indian democracy is functioning.
