There’s a reason why Trump never includes ‘Obama’ … ‘deportations’ … & ‘wide open borders’ … in the same sentence. It’s because no president in recent memory has been able to match Obama’s numbers. How was he able to do it so quietly, and where was Dr. Phil those days?

Let’s start from the beginning.

Up until the ‘80s and ‘90s, most people caught illegally crossing the border, or anywhere close to the border — regions in major cities such as San Diego, Laredo, El Paso, and Brownin — were put on buses and transported back to Mexico, without the need for a court-issued deportation order. This meant that nothing prevented those same people from trying to re-enter the US again, legally or illegally.

During the George W Bush administration, things changed. More and more of those caught close to the border got ‘officially’ deported, i.e., deportation orders were issued by courts, which meant they would be barred from legally entering the US for at least 5 years.

‘Deported’ as opposed to ‘voluntarily returned’ became the lingo under Bush, even though people who were caught were still given a chance to voluntarily return to Mexico instead of being processed as ‘illegal entries’ (less paperwork).

In the Obama years, a big majority of those people were ‘processed’, meaning that the ‘same general number of people returned to Mexico produced a higher number of court records, and thus it could be argued that Obama deported more people than his predecessors.

‘Processing’ also meant that the bar on ‘returning deportees’ would apply, which is key to preventing them from getting a visa to re-enter the US in the future. There was no ‘real change in the number of people who were returned to Mexico, just the way they were returned.

Obama also heavily utilized ‘expedited removal’ which was created by Congress in the 1990s, to streamline the removal of aggravated felons, illegal border crossers, and turn-backs at the border, which further reduced paperwork and the government’s expenses that would usually go towards ‘detaining aliens’.

By the time Obama became a senator in 2004, ‘expedited removal’ had been a reality for 8 years. He highly prioritized the expulsion of criminals, somehow without catering to white nationalists.

Republicans in Congress famously criticized him for not deporting school children, who had been granted a Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, (DACA) by executive order. He dared Congress to allocate him more money in the budget to do it. They didn’t.

Under Obama, no persons caught entering without inspection were detained unless they applied for asylum. If they did not qualify for an asylum hearing they were turned back at the border. If they met the requirements for a hearing, they were released wearing an ankle monitor.

Under Trump’s first administration, the ankle monitors went out the window (unnecessary expense by GOP speak). Catch and release for asylum-seekers actually started under Trump.

Biden continued Trump’s catch-and-release program, however even then, more people were denied entry at the border during his administration, and fewer asylum applications were accepted. Deportations also still went way up.

There are three ways by which people can be removed from the United States; deportations, expulsions (expedited removal), and denial of entry. Deportations will always be fewer because they can only happen after a legal hearing and legal ruling.

The GOP tends to focus on ‘deportations under Democrats’ because of that very reason, and because not many people know the difference.

Democrats on the other hand tend to ‘hide’ the fact that they’re sending ‘massive numbers’ of non-citizen entrants back because of the optics. However, for Republicans cruelty is the name of the game. The ‘removal’ of an illegal alien isn’t considered complete by them unless the alien is harassed and humiliated first.

During Trump’s first term, the fewest number of unauthorized non-citizens were removed from the United States of any modern US President. Latinos for Trump partly came about as a result of it.

So why weren’t Obama’s deportations as controversial as Trump’s? Well;

perhaps because we didn’t see Dr. Phil’s camera crews harassing soon-to-be deportees for clout

Perhaps because Trump brought back surprise raids at places of employment, schools, hospitals, and churches with ice agents snatching people — including citizens and veterans much worse — for being the wrong skin color, I suppose.

Perhaps because we didn’t hear about Guantanamo for ‘deportees’

Perhaps because we did not see children separated from their parents, children sleeping on concrete floors under mylar ‘blankets’, while others died due to dehydration and neglect in expensive private detention centers?

Perhaps because we did not see people living under highway underpasses because detention centers were filled and overflowing under Obama?

Perhaps because there was no secrecy surrounding detention centers during Obama’s two terms. I’m looking forward to seeing cameras at Trumps Guantanamo, bytheway.

What’s the difference between Obama’s and Trump’s deportations?

Well, when MAGAs make the numbers out to be the ‘contest’, you know that’s the smoke screen. The difference between Obama’s and Trump’s deportation is this; Trump is doing animal Husbandry, and always has — as he’s previously vocalized, while Barack Obama did deportations.

Is Barack Obama the ‘Deporter-In-Chief’? That sounds about right, in its right context.

The term “illegal immigrant” has no meaning under US immigration law. It is used as hate speech — not to mention the oxymoron that it is. It is intended to blur the distinction between persons who are legally present in the United States, and ‘unauthorized non-citizens’ who have violated immigration laws.

There is a cult of ignorance in the US that caters to the belief that some peoples’ ignorance is just as good as everyone else’s knowledge which is why they tend to ‘cling on to politicians who have an ‘opinion’.

The former are who got us to this moment, where mass-scale repression is becoming legal again.

If more of us were intellectually empowered we would quickly realize that Trump doesn’t speak for most of us, especially when it comes to these deportations. He speaks for the private prison industrial complex, who hope to exploit the 13th Amendment for profit.

It’s a total shame to imagine otherwise.
