Why turn to the Anti-Christ World for Guidance When Our Aim Is Heaven?

As I was reading 1 Corinthians 6:1 – 11, a realization came to mind. Why is it that so many believers seek solutions from outside the body of Christ?

By believers, I mean those who believe that Jesus Christ is the resurrected Messiah and the Son of God, as revealed through His Word. Fellow Christians in Christ.

Paul raises an important point about believers taking matters before the unrighteous instead of bringing them before the church. He makes a valid argument and an insightful statement. How can someone who has only learned moral principles, but does not know God, fully understand the mercy, wisdom, and character that come from Him?

Some would say that morality is enough, but it goes beyond that. From Genesis, God blessed humanity and created us in His image. While we are not equal to Him, He has given us wisdom and the ability to resolve disputes within our congregations and the environments we live in.

How can believers go to someone who does not believe in Christ, or who may see divorce as the obvious solution, for advice on marriage? That person will naturally advise from a moral or worldly standpoint rather than from spiritual understanding.

This is not to condemn non-believers, but to recognize that matters God Himself established such as marriage-should be approached with a deeper understanding of His design, not merely from our own understanding, which is often influenced by changing emotions.

(This is not to dismiss biblical grounds for separation or divorce, nor situations involving violence or abuse where remaining in the relationship could place someone’s life or safety at risk).

Yes, I am speaking to believers. Let the world do what it chooses to do, but do not forget that one day we will judge even angels. Therefore, we should be cautious about allowing a world that rejects God and wants nothing to do with Him to teach us how the saints should live.

Read your Bible. It contains the wisdom, instruction, and truth we need to know God’s character. How can we claim to love and believe in God if we do not read the very book that reveals who He is? Even electrical appliances come with a manual, so best believe we were also given the Bible for a reason. No matter how much confusion or how many apparent contradictions you may come across, pray for understanding and allow the Holy Spirit to guide you-but keep reading.

We should also remember that some accounts in Scripture are there to teach us, not to be imitated. The sins of David and Solomon, for example, are recorded not as examples to follow, but as lessons. God does not hide the failures of His people. Instead, He reveals them honestly and also shows us His mercy, forgiveness, and restoration when there is genuine repentance.

Forgiveness is a powerful gift God has given us. Sometimes we forgive for our own healing while still choosing separate paths. At other times, forgiveness leads to restoration, and we continue walking together. Therefore, before taking a fellow believer to court, let every effort be made for the church to judge the matter with patience, love, respect, kindness, and a desire for restoration.

God loves us all. If He were to count every sin we commit against Him, even our prayers would not reach Him. Yet He forgives us. Although we may not always forgive as perfectly as He does, He is patient with us as we grow.

“Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.”

Ephesians 4:32 (NIV)

Let us stop asking a sinful world that rejects and ignores Jesus Christ and His teachings how the saints should live. Instead, let us seek the Holy Spirit, who teaches us how to live in a way that pleases God and draws us closer to Him. In everything we do or when we are wronged , whatever the situation allow the Lord to lead and if it means through His servants then let it be so .

“But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.”

John 14:26 (NIV)

Even when people wrong us in our congregations, marriages, homes, families, friendships, or workplaces, we are often quick to hand them over to unbelievers for judgment. Instead, let us remember David’s words:

“David said to Gad, ‘I am in deep distress. Let us fall into the hands of the Lord, for his mercy is great; but do not let me fall into human hands.’”

2 Samuel 24:14 (NIV)

Jesus died and was resurrected. He demonstrated the greatest love by giving His life for sinners like us. He overcame death, giving us hope as we await His return. Let us repent, give Him a chance, and love one another as He first loved us. Above all,

“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.”
