One Day Becomes Day One: My Journey to the Cisco AITECH Certification

By Vijay Sundaram

A 4 minute read on how foundational technology skills to the new era of Agentic AI, highlighting how evolving expertise across various technologies can drive innovation and adaptation in today’s digital landscape.

I have spent my career across various industries, where Cisco networking and Collaboration had been my routine. I had the knowledge, the “dirt under my fingernails” from real-world troubleshooting, but I never held the paper.

In the AI era, everything is new. There are no decades-old forum posts to rely on. When Cisco announced the AI Technical Practitioner (AITECH 810–110), I realized that “One Day” had to become Day One. This is about how I cleared my first-ever Cisco certification and why I believe the “struggle” of learning is now a choice, not a barrier.

The Exam: What is AITECH?

The Cisco Certified AI Technical Practitioner (CCAITP) isn’t a novice learning but it’s a blueprint for action. It takes technical professionals from entry-level AI awareness to advanced, job-ready expertise. It bridges the AI skills gap by preparing prepare candidates for AI-driven innovation in their organizations

The exam duration is about 60 minutes long with 50 questions and multiple-choice answers. The syllabus is a map of the modern technical ecosystem:

My “Secret Weapon”: The AI-Powered Study Plan

Since this was my first certification, I didn’t want to just pass; I wanted to observe and follow my journey. I leveraged an AI collaborator to build a custom, granular learning engine. I didn’t just ask for “info” I asked for a system.

The Learning Workflow:

  1. Topic-to-Prompt Mapping: I fed the Official Exam Topics into my AI tool.
  2. Granular Sprints: For every sub-topic (e.g., 1.5 RAG and Vector Databases), I requested a deep dive with citations.
  3. The Validation Loop: I mandated a 5-question quiz at the end of every section. If I got an answer wrong, the AI didn’t just give the right one; it analyzed why I was wrong and provided the exact resource to fix the gap.
  4. The Simulator: Once the topics were clear, I used prompts to generate practice exams of 10, 30, and 60 questions, scaling the difficulty from Beginner to Expert.

The “Cheat Code” Master Prompt

Copy and paste this into an AI (like Gemini, ChatGpt or internal AI tool) to start your own journey for any exam:

Role: You are an expert Technical Instructor and Mentor specializing in [INSERT CERTIFICATION NAME, e.g., Cisco AITECH 810–110]. Your goal is to lead me through a “Mastery Loop” study plan to ensure I don’t just memorize but deeply understand the material.

The Roadmap: I will provide the official exam topics below. Your task is to guide me through them one sub-topic at a time. Do not move to the next topic until I have mastered the current one.

For every sub-topic, provide the following:

  1. Deep Dive: A clear, technical explanation of the concept.
  2. Cisco Context: How this specifically applies to Cisco architecture or products.
  3. The “Why”: Why is this required for the exam and what the “traps” might be.
  4. Lab/Activity: A short, hands-on simulation or thought exercise to apply the knowledge.
  5. Citations: Provide the specific resources (links or document names) where this information is extracted from.

The Validation Gate: After explaining a sub-topic, you must provide a 5-question Quiz.

  • I will provide my answers.
  • You will score me and provide a Justification for every answer (why the right one is right, and why the wrong ones are wrong).
  • If I score below 80%, you must provide a “Remediation” explanation before we move on.

The Final Phase: Once all topics are completed, you will act as an Exam Simulator. You will ask me for my preferences:

  • Question Count: (10, 20, 30, or 60)
  • Difficulty: (Beginner, Intermediate, or Expert)
  • Mode: (Study Mode with immediate feedback or Exam Mode with a final score).

Tone: Professional, encouraging, and technically precise. Use the philosophy: “One day, or Day One. You decide.”

Resources

While AI was my tutor, the source of truth remained Cisco.

  • **Cisco U. AITECH Learning Path:** This is the definitive “Gold Standard” resource. With a Cisco U. subscription, you get lab activities, assessments to prepare that are vital for the few portion of the “AITECH” examination.
  • **Cisco Trust Center:** Essential for the Ethics and Security domain.

Why This Matters?

I am writing this because knowledge that ends with a certificate is just an empty paper. In this era, we don’t have to struggle to take the first step as we aren’t innovating anything new; we are just consuming resources that are built for us already. The roads are built (Cisco U.), the vehicles are ready (AI Tools), and the map is clear (Exam Topics) and get the license to drive (Certification).

Closing Thoughts

To those watching from the sidelines: others might see your journey as “just another cert.” Their appreciation might be biased or polite.

But you must embrace the process. Whether you fail or succeed on the first try, celebrate the fact that you are now ahead of the person you were yesterday.

I hope that this article could help you if you are thinking of getting AWS certified, and convinced you to begin the certification journey!
