Andrea Lee Trails by Four After 54 Holes at FM Championship

A Superb Chase for the Lead

Andrea Lee is firmly in the hunt for her elusive second LPGA Tour victory, sitting four shots off the lead at 14-under par after 54 holes at the FM Championship in Norton, Massachusetts. The 27-year-old American has navigated challenging conditions with poise, securing a share of fourth place with a stellar third-round score of 66. As the final round looms, Lee’s consistency and precision position her as a formidable contender.

A Season of Depth and Dynamism

The 2025 LPGA Tour season has been a showcase of extraordinary talent, with 23 unique tournament winners, including 10 Rolex First-Time Winners, six of whom are rookies. Four of the five majors have been claimed by first-time champions, underscoring the tour’s unpredictability. Jeeno Thitikul holds the №1 spot in the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings, with Nelly Korda in close pursuit, yet even Korda has yet to secure a win this year.

Lee has taken note of this competitive landscape, remarking,

“The LPGA is really deep. There is so much depth now, so many young players from all over the world. Thailand, China, and Japan have really seen a lot of growth in the LPGA on their side. You can just see it from this year. We’ve had, I think, 23 different winners on Tour this year, which is insane. The top players, even Nelly Korda, haven’t won this year, which is crazy. She’s playing awesome golf and hasn’t won.”

Lee’s 2025 season has been marked by steady progress, with only one missed cut in 16 starts and five top-10 finishes, including a tie for fifth at The Amundi Evian Championship. Her third-round performance at TPC Boston, where she hit 14 of 14 fairways and missed just one green in regulation, highlights her precision. With only two bogeys all week and a seventh-place ranking in fairways hit (37 of 42), Lee’s ball-striking has been a cornerstone of her success.

Despite battling fatigue after 32 holes on Saturday, which included three rain delays on Friday, Lee maintained her focus.

“Obviously, the tiredness and exhaustion are there, but we still had another 18 holes left to play, so I was just preparing myself for that,” she said.

“I still feel the adrenaline rush when I’m out there, so I think that was the only thing keeping me going for the entire third round.”

Lee’s game plan revolves around her strengths as a driver and approach player.

“I am a pretty good driver of the ball,” she noted, despite feeling her drives lacked distance in the third round.

“That helps on courses like this, keeping it in the fairway. Rough is pretty thick out here.”

Her approach play has been equally reliable, targeting the “fat side” of greens to minimise mistakes and capitalise on birdie opportunities. This disciplined strategy has kept her in contention, with par being a valuable score on the demanding TPC Boston layout.

As she heads into the final round, Lee remains optimistic about her chances.

“I’m really proud of this season so far. Obviously, the goal is to win every week, and I feel like I’m getting closer and closer to that goal, which is always a good thing to see,” she said after her second round.

With her consistent play and mental resilience, Lee is poised to challenge for the FM Championship title and add her name to the LPGA’s list of 2025 winners.
