Why We Built a Multi-LLM System in the First Place

When we first designed K.A.T.E. the Kaelum. Audivo. Triovus. Engine. we made a decision that felt both logical and forward-thinking at the time: build a multi-LLM AI architecture that combined the strengths of multiple large language models under one orchestration layer.

The concept was straightforward. And then we started working with it.

How Claude Quietly Took Over

The shift didn’t happen overnight. It happened the way most revelations do gradually, then suddenly.

In the early stages of building KAELUM on Base44, we were using OpenAI for code generation and platform development. It worked. But when we encountered complex logic problems, nuanced compliance questions, or needed to troubleshoot intricate workflows, we found ourselves consistently turning to Claude for answers. Not because we’d planned to, but because Claude consistently gave us better, more thorough, and more reliable results.

Gemini, meanwhile, was positioned for pattern recognition and content analysis. But when we tested those same tasks against Claude, the output quality gap was stark. Claude didn’t just match the other models it surpassed them. In compliance reasoning, Claude demonstrated an ability to understand the nuance of UK Electronic Money Regulations and EU E-Money Directive language that the other models simply couldn’t match. In financial modelling conversations, Claude would anticipate edge cases and regulatory implications that we hadn’t even asked about. In content creation, Claude produced work that was not just technically correct but strategically sharp written with an understanding of KAELUM’s positioning, tone, and audience.

Most critically, with the release of Claude Opus 4.6, the capabilities gap became a chasm. What we were getting from Claude in a single conversation would have required three separate sessions across three different models previously. Opus 4.6 brought a depth of reasoning, a consistency of output, and an ability to hold complex multi-layered context that fundamentally changed what was possible.

We realised we weren’t using a multi-LLM system anymore. We were using Claude and occasionally checking in with the others out of habit. The data was clear. The results were undeniable. Claude was already doing all the work we just hadn’t formalised it yet.

Every major KAELUM strategic document has been developed in collaboration with Claude. Troubleshooting & Problem Resolution

Anyone who has built a platform knows that troubleshooting consumes more time than building. With Claude, our troubleshooting cycle has been compressed dramatically. We describe the problem in natural language, Claude analyses it in context, and typically within a single exchange, we have a working solution. It maintains our regulatory positioning at the sentence level across every document it touches.

Compliance & Regulatory Reasoning

Perhaps the most critical capability. KAELUM’s entire business model depends on maintaining its closed-loop exemption under UK Electronic Money Regulations and the EU E-Money Directive. A single piece of misworded content one reference to “minting,” one implication of open-market trading, one statement that frames KLM as an investment product could undermine that positioning. Claude acts as our real-time compliance layer, auditing every document, flagging prohibited terminology, verifying pricing rule accuracy, and ensuring that every public-facing word reinforces the regulatory architecture that protects KAELUM.

The New K.A.T.E.: Multi-Instance Claude Architecture

As of March 2026, K.A.T.E. runs on a fully Claude-powered architecture. The three-pillar structure remains, but the models behind it have unified:

Audivo now a Claude execution instance, handling computation, transaction processing, and code generation across the platform.

Triovus now a Claude governance instance, running SENTINEL (KAELUM’s AML compliance system), managing the Kaelum Value Index (KVI), and overseeing all regulatory and compliance operations.

Engine remains n8n, orchestrating workflows and API calls between the two specialised Claude instances.
