A Risk of Re-electing Trump

Re-electing Trump will bring us ever closer to an autocratic system. He doesn’t want your voice, just your obedience and loyalty. He only needs to con enough people to give him the authority to strip you of your voice.

There is a reason Trump admires Vladimir Putin, Kim Jong-un and Xi Jinping. They don’t need to care what people think. They can do and demand whatever they want. Likely jealous, he wants the power they have and to rule the way they do. And, he doesn’t have to look very far back in history to see a plan that could help him achieve such a goal.

Hitler started out working within the constraints of the Weimar Republic, a representative democracy. The German citizens were fed up with the economic impact the end of WWI treaty imposed on them. Hitler came along heroically promising them a utopian alternative; and they bought it hook, line and sinker.

Hitler only needed their support long enough to achieve a legal majority vote to pass the Enabling Act of 1933 in the German Reichstag. That paved the way to converting Germany from a democracy to an autocracy granting him full totalitarian power. He alone made all of the decisions for the German people. The German people unknowingly and unwittingly gave him the power to destroy their own lives and the lives of many others in other countries.

Trump should now be aware that he will have to employ somewhat similar strategies to enjoy the power his despotic friends already have. Unlike them however, he has to get the people to give it to him. Once achieved, the people of the United States will have no voice nor vote, as they stew in their resentment and despair.

Unfortunately, democracy will be much easier to destroy than to resurrect. We will not be able to vote to get it back. If we loose our democracy, we will all be chanting “If we could only Make America Great Again” for as long as protest is tolerated.
