Mmm. Earworms.

Taken from Wikipedia, an earworm is:

“a catchy or memorable piece of music or saying that continuously occupies a person’s mind even after it is no longer being played or spoken about.”

The aim is to help you overcome any Monday morning ‘Oh nos’ you might have.

To give you a tune that you can hum along to either out loud or to yourself.

A tune that gives your mind a happy place to retreat to while you plot your way to the relative safety of the mid-morning tea break, to lunchtime or even to the day’s end.

Now here’s something new for me, and for you, and I don’t mean the song.

This song qualifies as the first suggestion from one of my many millions of dear readers- that’s it lad think big.

I had no recollection of ever hearing it before when I first listened to this video last night. Yes, I listened, not watched, I was typing at the time and it was on in the background at first.

My old friend Andy, whom I jokingly refer to as ‘my editor’ on occasion, though there’s more truth to that than he gets credit for, messaged me the link assuming I’d know it.

Nope new to me. Which is nice, to be surprised by a good tune that’s somehow passed you by is a treat. I recognised the vibe that made it ‘of its time’ but not the song itself, only the Mink DeVille name was familiar.

That sound though was reminiscent of people such as Bowie and Lou Reed. The vocal backing of course is pure 50s doo-wop, which is always a hook that catches me when it’s done well, as it is here.

But most of all the bell that rang for me was Tav Falco. I had to listen to his ‘Tina, The Go-go Queen’ afterwards. Another good tune, and now I’ve been reminded of it, soon to be an upcoming earworm itself.

Meanwhile, I’m going to explore Mink DeVille a bit more while I’ve got YouTube open.
