Final Destination: Bloodlines review…oh death its brutal and scary!
I have fallen in love with this franchise and I’m happy to say this may be the best film of the lot.
The six film takes the classic format of death coming for a group of people but instead of friends it now runs in the family. Due to premonition Iris saw while attending a date, she has saved the life's of many but death has sadly not forgotten and is tracking them down and it now knocking on Iris’s family. There nothing much added lore wise and is a standard Final Destination format of trying to break the cycle but this one does feel a little fresh due to the family angle and it focusing on improving its story.
The most positive aspect is surprisingly the script, which I found more tighter than the previous instalments. I became more attached to the characters, and although it follows the same formula with some freshness, I was rooting for their escape from death. The film maintains a steady pace between deaths and feels more story-focused, which is acceptable until the final act, where the plot loses its momentum.
Upon examining the fatalities, they are as gruesome as ever. Each one left me astounded by the sheer brutality and intensity of these scenes. The film perpetually teases the audience with the anticipation of each subsequent death. From the over-the-top, colossal scene at the beginning to the casual setting of a barbecue and tattoo parlour, the creative deaths in the film consistently shock and amaze.
The third act is where things sadly take a turn. The deaths and story just plummeted to an uninspiring rushed final moments. Deaths downgraded through still gory never the heights to the BBQ one while the story just turns a notch up and races through it boringly. It ruins what was a perfect instalment but nether the less the entire film is undeniably entertaining.
Ultimately, Final Destination returns to the 2000s-style films, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. While we do not seek these films for their artistic merit, we primarily watch them for entertainment purposes. The film held my attention throughout its entirety, until the final credits rolled.
