Right-handed reliever Bradgley Rodriguez made his Major League debut Saturday night, issuing a walk with a strikeout in 1 2/3 hitless, scoreless innings.

A native of Venezuela, the 6-foot-1, 160-pound 21-year-old Rodriguez is ranked the Padres’ №14 prospect. Before being promoted Friday from Double-A San Antonio, Rodriguez was 4–0 with the Missions with five saves, a 3.22 earned run average, a 0.896 WHIP and a .172 opponents’ batting average with an average of 12.5 strikeouts per nine innings and a 6.2-to-1 strikeouts-to-walk ratio.

Rodriguez, who was promoted when left-hander Omar Cruz was returned to Triple-A El Paso, gave up nine runs (eight earned) for the Missions on 15 hits and five walks with 31 strikeouts in 22 1/3 innings over 18 appearances. He impressed Padres’ manager Mike Shildt during sprint training.

Rodriguez is the fifth player to make their Major League debuts as Padres this season following Cruz, outfielder Tirso Ornelas and right-handed pitchers Ryan Bergert and David Morgan.

PAD BITS:

— The hitting streaks of Manny Machado (seven games) and Jackson Merrill (six games) both ended Saturday as the Padres got only two hits against the Pirates. Also ending Saturday was the Padres’ streak of 10 straight wins against Pittsburgh.

— RHP Sean Reynolds struck out 2 in 1 2/3 perfect innings Saturday night. He has not allowed a run over his past five relief appearances — giving up 2 hits and 3 walks while striking out 9 over 8 1/3 innings.

PADRES ON DECK:

Starting LHP Omar Cruz (2.66 ERA), the Padres’ №20 prospect, allowed 2 hits and a walk with 6 strikeouts in 4 scoreless innings Saturday night for Triple-A El Paso in his return to the Chihuahuas from the Padres. RHP Francis Pena (6.20), the Padres’ №18 prospect, pitched a perfect inning.

DH Kavares Tears (.304), the Padres’ №7 prospect, was 2-for-4 with a walk for Single-A Lake Elsinore. 1B Lamar King Jr. (.250), the Padres’ №29 prospect, was 3-for-4 with a double, a stolen base and 2 runs.

RHP Isaiah Lowe (6.07 ERA), the Padres’ №10 prospect, gave up 2 runs on 4 hits and 3 walks with 5 strikeouts in 4 2/3 innings for High Single-A Fort Wayne. RHP Tyson Neighbors (1.35), the Padres’ №15 prospect, had a strikeout in a perfect inning. SS Leo De Vries (.266), the Padres’ №1 prospect, was 1-for-5 with a RBI.

RHP Braden Nett (4.42 ERA), the Padres’ №9 prospect, gave up 2 runs (1 earned) on 2 hits and 4 walks with 4 strikeouts for Double-A San Antonio. 1B Romeo Sanabria (.331), the Padres’ №17 prospect, was 1-for-4 with a run.

AROUND THE FARM:

TRIPLE-A EL PASO (28–28) — SACRAMENTO 8, Chihuahuas 1: SS Clay Dungan (.255) had a solo home run in 4 at-bats. 1B Trenton Brooks (.294) was 2-for-4. CF Forrest Wall (.244) was 2-for-3.

DOUBLE-A SAN ANTONIO (27–23) — ARKANSAS 3, Missions 2 (10 innings): 2B Marcos Castanon (.308) had a solo home run in 4 at-bats. RHP Stephen Jones (1.40) allowed a hit and a walk with a strikeout in 1 1/3 scoreless innings. RHP Eduarniel Nunez (3.98) gave up a hit with 5 strikeouts in 2 scoreless innings. LHP Jake Higginbotham (2.89) allowed a hit and a walk with 43 strikeouts in 2 scoreless innings.

HIGH SINGLE-A FORT WAYNE (25–25) — TinCaps 6, Great Lakes 2: C Oswaldo Linares (.191) was 1-for-2 with a walk, a sacrifice fly, 3 RBIs and a run. RHP Garrett Hawkins (2.78) allowed a hit and a walk in a scoreless inning.

SINGLE-A LAKE ELSINORE (23–27) — STORM 6, Stockton 1: Starting RHP Abraham Parra (1–1, 6.10) allowed a run on a hit and a walk with 2 strikeouts over 5 innings to earn the win for Single-A Lake Elsinore. RHP Bernard Jose (3.71) had 3 strikeouts in 3 perfect innings. 2B Yendry Rojas (.239) was 2-for-4 with a double, a stolen base, a RBI and a run. RF B.Y. Choi (.204) was 2-for-4 with 2 RBIs.

ARIZONA COMPLEX LEAGUE PADRES (5–17) — Royals 13, PADRES 4: 2B Luis De Leon (.295) was 2-for-5 with a RBI. 1B Kevin Hacen (.171) and SS Emil Turbi (.207) were each 2-for-4 with a run.
