And, I Made a Good Decision… [Part 1]

I’m happy about making it on last Thursday lunch break.

I was settling things on my table during the last few minutes of the first half. Suddenly, I saw my phone lying on the left corner ringing.

“Hey man, where is your office? I think I’m close to it. Let’s visit our new family-man-turned businessman.”, said my college friend on the phone.

“Sending you on Whatsapp. Where are you right now,” I said.

“ — at — now — I’m leaving from here”, will be there in 10 minutes”

I missed that initial part due to bad network connection; of course on his side. But, I got the most important part of the message.

“Alright, let’s meet.” I ended the call with this. Suddenly, I noticed a flock of thoughts about the table tennis match after eating my lunch roaming here & there into my mind. In the morning, a muscular website designer had challenged me if I could beat him in any of the rounds to be played today.

I picked up my phone and was about to call my friend about the change of my plan. But, suddenly, I canceled the idea and decided to go with him.

After finishing my pending work, I rested my back on the office chair, and relaxed. By the time lunch break started, I was ready to bring my tiffin out of my bag.

The mobile phone rings. “I’ve arrived at the location waiting for you,” he said.

Surprised about his life’s first on-time arrival and keeping the promise, I told him to wait for 1 minute. This is the exact time it takes me to arrive at the main gate from my desk; I always give this waiting period to cab drivers.

I picked up my tiffin and left the floor. While in the lift, I was thinking about him sitting in the brand-new car with a VIP number plate. Mr. On Time has immense love towards different cars and I still remember him expressing his wish to have at least 5 sports cars in a metro city in India during college days.

“How come you’re still driving this beast.”, I asked him while opening the front door of his SUV he bought 12 months ago.

“Haha. Nothing special. But, I’ve just narrowed down things in my life and started focusing on things that matter the most.” he said while putting the vehicle on back gear to turn it around.

While talking about life, work & other things, and crossing the storm of automobiles during the lunch break on one of the busiest places in Mohali, we reached the new young businessman’s office.

It had rained a few hours back and was still drizzling, so Mr. On Time was driving slowly while searching for the perfect parking space.

He just grabbed his phone from his pocket and called, “We’ve just arrived at the main gate of your office. Where are you?”

From the answers he was giving on the phone and discussion, I got to understand that the new businessman will make us wait for 5–10 minutes.

“Is he actually busy or showing us that he’s busy?” I said to Mr. On Time.

A young girl with round glasses opened the glass door for us.

“This way please”, he asked.

“Should I turn on the AC”. We heard this while settling on the gray arm chairs in the businessman’s cabin.

“Fan is enough for us. Thanks for the warm welcome. We are fine. You can continue with what you were doing.”, I said to her.

By that time, Mr. businessman entered the cabin.
