Wizened
A poem of the grace and wisdom
Wizened
A poem of grace and wisdom

I have this collection Of thirty nine years I have marks and impressions For each year I have here.
I choose to age With something like grace Rather than freeze The smile from my face.
The longer my ears The wider my nose The grayer my hair The wiser I grow.
I’m not a big fan Of my new thigh dimples But accepted with grace They’re something more simple:
Just another part Of my Great Life Story. The dips and bumps Mean it’s not boring.
The pain in my body Isn’t something to hide, It’s just more evidence That I’m still alive.
Rather than fight it I’m going to be gentle, Show myself kindness Instead of growing resentful.
That’s the true lesson Of bodies that age, Beauty takes a bow And fades from the stage.
Wisdom means more And sees more as well There’s more beauty in that Than firm skin can tell.
I do wonder as wrinkles Deepen and grow When I look like a prune, How much wisdom I’ll know.
How different then My body might be When it tells the whole story Of what it means to be me.
