The Wombat Heist

Sam Jones’ Joystick of Lies and How a Self-Serving Apology Fell Short

Sam Jones, the influencer who felt entitled to steal a baby wombat, now offers up a pseudo-apology that’s as weak as it is self-serving. Her recent attempt to reframe the situation only exposes her utter lack of accountability.

In her statement, Jones claimed she was “extremely concerned” about the joey’s health and feared the mother might attack her. Her words are a thin veil for the truth, and we’re not buying it. She had the audacity to write,

I ran, not to rip the joey away from its mother, but from fear she might attack me.”

A ‘joey’ is a baby wombat. But this blatantly contradicts the video evidence, which shows her laughing and exclaiming,

I caught a baby wombat,”

as she runs away with the distressed joey.

Jones further stated,

I have learned from this situation, and am truly sorry for the distress I have caused.”

Talk about bullshit. This insincere attempt to reframe the reality is pathetic.

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese condemned her behavior, stating,

To take a baby wombat from its mother, and clearly causing distress from the mother, is just an outrage.

In a desperate attempt to deflect, Jones tried to shift blame onto Australia’s policies on wildlife culling. Because, of course, it’s always easier to shift blame than to take responsibility. Her criticism of the Australian government reeks of trying to play the victim rather than own up to her own reckless behavior.

Facing huge backlash, including death threats on social media, and an ongoing review of her visa conditions, Jones decided to leave Australia.

Good riddens!
