They both got down on their knees as if to worship, but they were just kissing. Clementine was drunk from the sweetness with which Nicky held her face and looked at her before he kissed her hungry lips over and over again.
Her euphoria from kissing him was obvious and she was not ashamed. Nicky had been her obsession ever since she thought he was so evil to stand her up that night on the rooftop. The truth was her “date” was just to distract her from how much it hurt her not to be with Nicky.
It hurt her even more that she was the one who was at fault. She did not remember seeing the message, but she had looked at messages that night. All she could think was that she had missed his message while she answered others.
But now it did not seem to matter as he demonstrated even more sweetness pulling down the zipper of her dress. She did not care if they found them in flagrante — she needed to be with Nicky so bad.
“I’m so sorry, Nicky,” she said and he kissed the saltiness of her tears from her mouth.
“I could have checked in on you as well, Clem. It’s like we were both so hurt hat we did not even reach out again.”
“I missed you.”
“My friends insisted I go on apps because I had not been out with anyone but you.”
“Same, not my friends, but I was trying to prove I did not care anymore.”
“Do you still care about me?”
Clementine pulled down her dress. Naked to the waist, she pressed her body to his and kissed him hoping that he could feel the answer in her kiss.
Then she realized that that was how they got in trouble the first time so she said,
“I’m in love with you.”
“I’m in love with you.”
Hours later, Clementine was happy that she and Nicky had made love. That they were fully clothed — if disheveled — as she was clung to him for dear life when they finally got them out of the elevator. He held her hand the same way.
She hoped they never let go again.
