When a YouTuber’s Comment Section Becomes a Battlefield

Comment section is a crazy battle for sure
The nice thing about having your own YouTube channel is that if someone is rude in the comment section, you can just click block/hide from channel (so they can sit there babbling away in their loneliness without realizing that they’re no longer visible to anyone but themselves). But what can be really irritating is when followers don’t attack the YouTuber who made the video, but instead attack each other in the comment section and the YouTuber who owns the channel does absolutely nothing. That’s when personal attacks and threats often happen without anything being done about it. This happens often unfortunately, and the reason why the YouTuber who owns the channel just lets it continue and remains passive is often because they benefit from the traffic it creates when followers keep returning to their channel again and again to continue arguing, it’s good for the algorithm and in turn generates more momentum for the channel. In other words, the YouTuber couldn’t care less if two followers kill each other, as long as they don’t attack the YouTuber themselves.
When Followers Attack Each Other
Recently, such a dispute happened on a so-called “commentary channel” that I follow sporadically when there’s something interesting, which is becoming increasingly rare nowadays. It was about a couple who had made a video of a gender reveal (why people even do that publicly is a topic in itself, it should happen privately) but it turned out that the child had a 98% risk of having Down syndrome, the video ends with the couple being very sad and then you find out that they chose not to have the child, so it was aborted because of the high risk. The girl who runs the commentary channel on YouTube agreed with the couple and thought it was a difficult decision and that people should respect their choice, but her comment section went completely wild and there was one person in particular who started arguing with everyone who didn´t felt the same way, however nobody attacked the YouTuber herself.
Agree to Disagree? Few Can
I have the ability to quickly read people, and I immediately felt that this angry person was taking everyone’s differing opinions as something deeply personal in some illogical way even though she herself had no experience with Down syndrome, she just had a whole lot of opinions, assumptions and considered everyone who didn’t think like her to be ignorant, disgusting, every horrible word you can think of, “good thing you don’t have children”, “everyone who thinks in this way are SICK” and that type of thing, and refused to accept the fact that not everyone HAS the ability to take care of a child at all, especially not one with severe disabilities. She was one of those deeply irritating people who REFUSE to understand that people ARE ALLOWED to think differently, all people are not the same, all people do not have the same abilities, that some people know their limitations without testing them and hoping for the best, that everyone has different reasons for making the choices they make in life and she doesn’t know a damn thing about them, all people are NOT cut from the same cloth, etc. She didn’t attack just one person but EVERY single person who thought differently, she even attacked people that had real experience with Down Syndrome, as soon as they replied she started with personal attacks and never stopped. A person like that has to be ignored (and hopefully blocked) because she is not there for a calm discussion whatsovever, she is there to fight. She doesn’t want to listen to anyone else; the only thing a person like that wants to hear is “I agree.” That’s all. She doesn’t want even the slightest “but what if…”. Hell no — she would ramble, get upset, and scream. It’s totally pointless to argue with a person like that. Even writing “I respect your opinion but I don’t agree” would not stop her from continuing. I hate ignoring people, but this is the type I would ignore because it’s like talking to an angry pitbull. I do understand that sometimes people get upset about different things, especially topics they feel very strongly about. I get that, and I’m not against serious discussions. But when it comes to nasty name-calling and being completely closed off to the idea that people can think very different, and they just keep barking like fools at anyone who doesn’t agree, then I just leave.
Why should I stay and listen to someone who is so overly upset? I see these kinds of people as unstable — not because of their opinion itself, but because of how they express it. If they can’t stay calm in a comment section, I would highly recommend that they don’t go online at all. No one will miss them.
When a “Blessed Mother” Turns into a Troll
Her profile picture showed her smiling with two small children with no disabilities and in her bio she writes “wife to an amazing husband, mommy to two handsome little boys, blessed beyond measure”. I just can’t help but wonder, how proud are these boys and her amazing husband when she is such an aggressive troll on YouTube? How proud are you of being so nasty to people who think differently from you? Imagine meeting a person like that in real life.
And the YouTuber just let it happen, as long as she herself isn’t being attacked.
