You Are Worthy & Divine: To Your Inner Child

If you experienced abandonment and emotional neglect when you grew up

Beloved child, You’re divine.

The day you arrived in this world, the silver moonlight fell into your eyes. Your eyes became a mirror. Soft green leaves, blue sky, burnt sunset. The beauty was in your eyes. Like your soul.

You didn’t doubt your right to exist. Your feelings flowed freely, because they were your nature. You cried when you were hungry so you could be fed. You cried when you felt unsafe as your mother left the room until she returned.

Your eyes sparkled at the colour you loved. You smiled when the breeze kissed your face and chased when the yellow butterfly flew by.

You loved what you loved. You showed your natural gifts without hiding. You were there as you were already chosen. You were there, exactly as the light you were. You were divine. You were worthy.

Then what happened, beloved child? May I hold your hands? Will you tell me your story?

You watched your parents leave and drift away — or perhaps they were right there, but their hearts felt worlds away. You looked on, scared of being left behind, and with a hope they would turn back to you. You waited.

You would simply cry, unable to express how scared you were.

As days went on, you cried less. You became increasingly silent. Until you no longer hoped. You learned to silence your voice, to shrink your needs, to become invisible. To survive.

You learned to have no needs, so you wouldn’t be a burden. You learned to notice every frown, every displeasure, every anger of adults around you — adults you relied on to survive — they would all be your fault.

You learned to make others happy. So began your lifelong habit of pleasing others — displeasing yourself.

You learned when you performed well, you were praised. The moment you felt loved. What a discovery! So you performed, whether you loved it or not. So began your lifelong habit of performing, whether it fulfilled your soul or not.

You learned that becoming the version of you that everyone liked and praised was the safe protection. In the praise, you were finally worthy of existing. You’d finally earned the worth and love you knew. What could be worth more? Self-betrayal was not a big deal, after all. It would be worth it.

You no longer chased the butterfly.

The adult you remembered what you’d learned. So you pleased and performed. You betrayed and suppressed yourself.

And you kept going. Kept going. Kept going.

Until you forgot your light as beautiful as the silver moonlight.

You buried your true gifts. You were disconnected from your true self. You carried a loss of the unlived life and the person you were meant to be.

Beloved child, I feel your pain of shrinking when you were meant to shine. I feel your exhaustion when you were meant to experience peace and joy. I feel your grief of not believing in your worth.

Will you let me hold you?

Please forgive yourself. You were resilient in surviving. Despite it all, you chose to remain compassionate. And there was a voice in you that whispered you were worth more. That insistence is courage.

Beloved child, will you allow me to tell you the truth? The sacred truth.

The world missed your light.

You were born worthy and divine. Like the purple wild flower by the road. Like the snow leopard on the deep mountain top. You never had to prove your worth — I am so sorry you felt you had to.

You are a beautiful gift to the world. Not because of the performance that looks good to others, or how much you please others. Your being is a gift.

The worth you seek from outside is always deep within you. Your spirit and soul. Your life force. Your unique gift. Your purpose and presence.

Your worth, like the Universe itself, is constant, always there — unchanged by the circumstance, unmoved by the grade from others, shining its own light. She is calling you home.

Beloved child, the moonlight is always in your eyes. The warmth of your light has never faded.

And here come the butterflies.
