I generally avoid caffeine and caffeine-related products in my diet (okay, ignoring chocolate, World War 3 won’t make me give that up!). The main reason being because I’m a highly sensitive person. Hence, my nervous system easily gets stimulated. Yet, now and again I do like to consume green tea or matcha tea. I especially adore vegan matcha lattes.
I enjoy the taste and relish in its health benefits, which are pretty amazing. Green tea consumption is one reason why the Japanese are one of the longest-living human populations. Matcha is a form of green tea.
With the universal forces allowing, I want to live a long and healthy life, with fire in my veins to keep on dancing, creating, relating and enjoying this wonderful thing called 'life'.
In the past week or so, I’ve been nurturing a slow, cosy and simple matcha latte preparation and drinking habit.
I love the whole ritual of choosing my preferred mug, boiling the water in my stovetop kettle, laying out my matcha pack and matcha-making accessories, and the entire tea-making process.
I prefer making my own brew at home rather than buying it from a cafe. This way I can tweak it to my preference and enjoy all the tactile and aroma-therapeutic benefits of engaging with my matcha latte preparation.
Currently I’m drinking a brand that has a coconut milk-based creamer blended into the matcha. Which makes a dreamy-creamy-heavenly sip.
It also contains a host of healing goodies, such as — Inulin powder (good for gut health and a prebiotic), cinnamon (helps stabilise blood sugar), Bacillus Coagulans (supports digestion and strengthens the immune system), and Reishi mushroom (a deep immune system booster and neuroprotective).
As a healthy living fiend, I love functional foods that bring much more to the table. Matcha definitely ticks this box.
Settling down amidst my often busy days, provides a moment of calm, cosiness and peace for me.
Making and drinking my matcha bevergae is a simple way to slow my days down, take in the warmth of my latte, and simply enjoy being alive.
My particular brand is also not as stimulating as others I’ve tried before, which is such a huge plus. I think it’s because it has a high amount of coconut milk powder in it. I've tried it before, and it has only 11% matcha added in, so it's gentler on my heart rate, and I don't feel revved up after drinking it.
From my research and studies I found out that some brands have a higher L-theanine level, which can smoothen out any jitteriness, as L-theanine is calming to the nervous system. So perhaps that is also a contributing factor.
I know aged or oxidised matcha powders can have a naturally lower caffeine content, but none of these factors apply to the type of matcha I'm using. As it isn’t old, and I keep it stored in its releasable pouch. Hence, it isn’t exposed to oxygen in the air.
It’s nice to have simple moments in my day, when I can practise self-care and remember that life isn’t all about going at full pace.
There’s a certain magic in sipping on warming beverages that seem to dissolve stress with each sip. So for the time being I’m a proud member of the Cosy Girl Matcha Club. I love celebrating finding calm in my little cup of bliss!
