MOS — Modular Operating System

So we decided to create a new NAS OS for small servers and homelabs based on devuan. (We = We’re a small team from Austria and Germany)

Yes, I know there are already some other established NAS OS like Unraid, Proxmox, Open Media Vault or FreeNAS.

But we wanted to create a free and open source alternative with modern UI(Vue and Vuetify) and of course an API.

Honestly, I don’t know all the other systems in detail, but I’ve used Unraid before and found some points I didn’t like.

So we created MOS and there were some key requirements for me:

• no telemetry
• no forced cloud services
• 100% self-hosted in its original form, but can also be enhanced with plugins
• open source
• modern API and UI
• free :)

• Docker
• LXC
• VMs
• MOS Hub to use community written templates

Supported Pools

• Single
• Multi (Raid)
• MergerFS
• Nonraid (with a plugin)
• OpenZFS (CLI only at the moment)

I know not everything is perfect right now, but we are working hard to make it better and better :)

Actually its a beta, but its ready for productive use. (My main homelab runs MOS) ;-)
