Knowing the Difference between right and wrong

The sun sinks on a dusty street, my moral compass wavering in the summer heat. I spot a wallet left behind — inside, a name, a face, a hundred dollars neatly lined. One voice tempts, “Keep it, no one has to know.” Another insists, “That’s not the way to go.” The line is thin as breath, a trembling thread — a quiet war inside my head.

Oh, it’s a line etched in shifting sand, an electric wire humming in my hand. It’s the space between the letter and the heart, where the best and worst of us both start. Is it black or is it white, or just a shade of gray? Does it bend, does it break, or slowly fade away? I walk that line through night and day — the line between right and wrong.

A promise born in easier days now weighs heavy, flirting with legal lines. To break it might save a hurting friend; to keep it could let something good end. Is it braver to hold on, or wiser to let go? Is there justice in this undertow? It’s a tightrope walk through a gathering storm, a fragile form.

Maybe it’s not a wall but a river wide, with truth and mercy flowing on either side. The crossing shifts with every tide. Maybe the line’s not meant for blind observance, but to remind us we have the nerve to choose, to lose, to seek what we deserve.

It bends, it breaks, it fades away, and I’m learning from the price I pay — on the line between right and wrong. Each step, each choice, echoes long, until I return what never belonged.
