5 Reasons Why You Can’t Be Crabby in Krabi

One with nature at Railay Beach
Whenever my husband and I decide to go somewhere together (syncing our work, leaves, and commitments isn’t always easy), we end up choosing places close to water bodies. It helps us relax, stay flexible with plans, and yet visually feast on amazing sights. So, a couple of years back, while thinking on those lines, we decided to holiday in Krabi.
And we realized — no matter how exhausted you are from the daily grind, you just can’t be crabby in Krabi. This Thai resort town isn’t just an escape from everything that sucks your energy and peace. It helps you find what you are seeking, within. Here’s how.
- Your Mind Breaks Free from the Concrete Jungle

Right before landing
Incredibly blue waves, rugged limestone cliffs, lush mangroves, soft white sand, and balmy air — Krabi makes you forget the oppressive mundanity of modern buildings and ultramodern skyscrapers. At the same time, it comes with all the comforts you need for a memorable vacation.

We chose Ao Nang as our base, and on the way to our stay, we realized why Krabi draws all kinds of nature-lovers. Whether you have a thing for luxury or prefer a more down-to-earth yet cozy experience, the resort town blends nature and convenience seamlessly. For instance, we woke up (in our chic duplex) to this sight every morning.

Your senses get attuned to what should have been normal…living with nature (and not in a concrete jungle where you can call a small patch of land or balcony your garden).
2. You Focus on the Present
The realization that “the present is all we have” dawned on us the day we went island-hopping. It wasn’t the first time we felt that ruminating on the past or stressing about the future doesn’t make much sense…but you get the drift.

Sun-kissed!
Simply put, the endless chatter in your brain takes a pause in Krabi when you set your sight on clear blue skies, crystal-clear waters, and picture-perfect long-tail boats promising unforgettable adventures.

When the salty wind and spray from the sea join hands to play with your hair and spatter your sunglasses, you forget about worldly cares. To take it up by a notch, you can always go for a dive or swim (where permitted). Not to mention the child-like joy you are sure to feel when you catch a school of colorful fishes passing by.

3. You Accept Your Insignificance (Happily)
Whether you have had a chance to read Carl Sagan’s Pale Blue Dot or not, there’s no way to deny how insignificant we are against the limitless, barely-understood universe. The time we spend on earth, in a form that allows us to enjoy sights, sounds, sensations, scents, and tastes, is like the blink of an eye when compared to the geological timescale!

And in Krabi, surrounded by tireless waves, gigantic cliffs, and winds that blow as and when they like it — humility hits you hard. You pray to nature instead of preying on it.

4. You Stop Editing Moments
If you are planning a trip to Krabi during the peak season, rest assured you won’t need to edit pictures. You might decide to slightly brighten something shot in the shade or crop an image for more impact, but that’s about it.

Catch a sunset from The Last Fisherman Bar in Ao Nang if you can
Essentially, you end up focusing more on real rather than reel. Krabi is perfect just the way it is…and the time you spend there is too. The realization frees you up mentally. You stop caring about creases in your shirt, flyaway hair, tans, or random clouds cloaking the sun.
5. You Appreciate the Little Things
The pace in Krabi is always unhurried, even when you can’t wait to start munching on crispy shrimp tempura (check out crowded streetside stalls for the best preparations). So, what happens is you end up noticing little things…simple yet poignant, quirky, or cute. It might be a whale mural in a random cafe, a baby stone elephant offering you a flower, or a simple graffiti (that says ROCK AND ROLL WILL NEVER DIE).

We also discovered that eating and drinking could be way more pleasurable when we are not rushing through it before getting back to work or hitting the bed. For instance, who wouldn’t want to actually chew while having a wholesome breakfast or breathe easy while sipping on pretty drinks? Even drinking incredibly-sweet coconut water on a quiet, hot afternoon was a treat.

So, yes, our trip to Krabi was an eye-opener in many ways. Not that we were blind to the above realizations before. However, the trip served as a refresher course.
