Sanju Samson’s stint as Rajasthan Royals captain in IPL 2025 wasn’t exactly a success story. With 285 runs in 9 matches at a strike rate of 140.39, his numbers weren’t particularly impressive, although he did manage a half-century against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Unfortunately, his team’s campaign wasn’t much better, finishing ninth in the points table with just four wins, narrowly edging out Chennai Super Kings.

Samson’s injury woes forced him to miss five matches, during which Riyan Parag took over the reins without making a significant impact on the team’s fortunes. Now, social media is abuzz with speculation about Samson’s future with the Royals, sparked by a post suggesting he’s set to leave the team.

The post claimed that Samson is in talks with two big franchises eager to snap up an Indian wicketkeeper-batsman, drawing parallels with the Shreyas Iyer-Rishabh Pant situation at Delhi Capitals. It also hinted that Yashasvi Jaiswal’s growing ambition to take over the captaincy might force the Royals’ hand.

While fans reacted to the post, some questioning Samson’s role in the potential split and others suggesting teams like CSK or KKR would be a good fit for him. Given the current setup, it’s unlikely Samson will switch teams before the next mega-auction, slated for after the 2027 season.
